Daadi lived a life filled with both deep joy and profound loss. She endured the passing of her eldest son, her daughter-in-law, and her husband, yet was also blessed to witness the birth of her great-grandchildren. Through every hardship, she carried herself with quiet strength, resilience, and grace until the very end.
Every time we visited India, she welcomed us with open arms, ready to feed us, insisting we eat more, slipping extra money into our hands for shopping, and still finding the energy to go on her daily walks and keep the house spotless. She never slowed down, always putting others before herself.
In the last few years, we began to see how much life had taken a toll on her. She aged faster and grew weaker, yet remained present, loving, and deeply connected to us in every way she could.
Her passing was so sudden. My heart feels heavy, and my eyes fill with tears the moment her name is mentioned. Still, I am forever grateful for the blessing of having her in my life, for the decades of weekly phone calls, her guidance, her love, and her unwavering presence.
Trips back home will never feel the same without her there. Her absence will always be noted, but I hope to still feel her presence in the places she loved, the traditions she kept, and the memories we carry with us.
During one of the most difficult moments of our lives, I also want to wholeheartedly thank and for the courageous staff who showed up to work during the biggest snowstorm of the season and made it possible for my dad to fly out.
From passports being under six months, to visas arriving just ten minutes before we left home (thank you ), to using emergency funds it truly felt like every hurdle was a test. But through it all, God made a way so that my dad could be there to say goodbye, fulfill his duties, and carry out Daadi’s last rites and rituals.
May she rest in peace 🕊
