The Carter Beal Conservation Area in Bournedale Massachusetts is 48 acres of beautiful history. The steep hills and massive boulders you see along the trails were left behind by retreating ice sheets during the last Ice Age. It is also sacred Indigenous land, long before the colonial settlers arrived, this area was and still is the ancestral home of the Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe who relied on the riverās massive annual fish migrations.
Back in 1695, a settler named Elisha Bourne built the very first dam and grist mill here and you can still spot the ruins from the old days while you walk.
Today it has a fish ladder where thousands of herring swim upstream every spring. I really enjoy relaxing to the peaceful sounds of the water moving alongā¦

On July 27th 2015 a Yeti encounter was reported by a Russian artist and sculptor named Andrey Lyubchenko. He claimed to have met the creature in the remote mountains of the Kemerovo region in Siberia. The encounter supposedly happened just after dawn and he described it as a muscular male, about 8 feet tall, covered in thick dark brown fur and 18 inch feet. Lyubchenko described his face as being highly expressive and had light colored human like eyes. The Yeti he said, was holding a wooden stick wrapped in bits of hair. It did not run away but stood in the woods trying to communicate with him, he claimed the beast verbally introduced itself as āTa-banā and allowed the artist to draw a sketch of him. The artist said he didnāt have paper with him and drew it on the bark of a tree.
He received, as youād probably expect, lots of backlash from his report and said at the time he was aware people would think he was insane.
The local Russian newspaper which originally broke the story believed Lyubchenko was a reputable local figure who was physically and mentally fit.
The Kemerovo region had been pushing the yeti angle for years to boost their tourism, even celebrating an official annual Yeti Day.
Aman Tuleyev, the former governor of the Kemerovo region said later that he had actually ordered local officials to dress up and fake Yeti sightings to keep tourists and media attention on them, and you canāt blame them, here we are over a decade later and bigfoot still brings a boost to smaller towns economies all over the US. Was the artist in on it? That I donāt know, but it was definitely kind of the creature to allow the artist to sketch him!

The creatureās lore is thought to have originated from sightings of stray animals with severe mange, or the rare Southeast Asian cat-flower-fox (the Somali cat).

Fur, moonlight, huddle, and those wolfy songs
And those wolves
who learned to no longer trust humanity
Learned to trust and raise this feral girl to be loved, wild and freeā¦ā

When 17th-century colonial explorers discovered them, they sent them back to Europe. The British royal court viewed them as a divine miracle from God. Demand grew so high that early settlers mined and exported these ācross stonesā to Europe, where they were worn as protective talismans. Today, you can still find these local historic treasures on display in British and European museums.
But here back in Lancaster this section of the forest almost looks like the graveyard of the chiastolite stones, you can see all the smashed pieces around from people still searching for cross stones within themā¦
