Knowing that our marriage had to be carefully reviewed and approved made this moment feel even more sacred to us. There were moments during this process that felt emotional, stressful, and overwhelming, but I continued praying that if this was where God wanted us to begin our marriage, He would make a way for us. And somehow, through every obstacle, He did.
We were married inside Santo Stefano Rotondo, one of the oldest churches in all of Rome, standing for over 1,500 years. Built in the 5th century, this breathtaking chapel has survived centuries of history, wars, popes, and empires. Its rare circular design symbolizes eternity and heaven, making it unlike almost any other church in Rome. The church was dedicated to Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr, and even the marble columns inside were taken from ancient Roman buildings, meaning pieces of Ancient Rome quite literally surround you within its walls.
Standing beneath those arches, inside a church that has witnessed centuries of prayer and devotion, felt impossible to describe. The silence, the history, the presence of God in that space… it reminded us that marriage is far more than a celebration. It is a covenant before Him.
To walk down the aisle within Vatican City, surrounded by faith, history, and the people we love most, is something we will cherish forever. Out of all the places in the world, God allowed us to begin our forever there.
God heard every prayer I whispered about this day.
