I experienced some extreme lows and difficult personal challenges this year, but having made it through to what truly seems like the other side, I can reflect back and feel incredibly thankful for such a fulfilling year, at home and away. Cheers to more adventuring in 2026. â¨

Western States was one of the original driving forces behind why I first got into ultrarunning. It may sound cliche, but back in 2014, âBorn to Runâ and âs âEat & Runâ inspired me to move from the Midwest to the west coast in pursuit of ultra-distances and tougher trails. I had hoped maybe one day Iâd get a shot at racing 100 miles from Olympic Valley to Auburn. The community in Portland readily welcomed me, brought me on their wild long runs through the Gorge or around Mt. Hood, and gave me confidence to take it further. Every December, weâd gather at the Lucky Lab to watch the drawing, hoping weâd be the one sitting in the Air Chair⌠What a journey itâs been.

Pacing Melissa at this past summer was a highlight of my life, not just my running. The experience brought back that feeling of genuine awe I still have for the sport and the people in it. Michael wanted a challenge when he signed up for this inaugural event, and I think he faced more challenge than any of us could have expected. From pushing the pace during the early miles, to problem solving nutrition, to tendonitis, to the lightning holds, snow, hail, fog, and huddling in the Outpost on Mammoth Mountain, to ultimately navigating a reroute just before the finish⌠He made it through and came away with learnings for next time. đ Tig was so proud at the finish line!

I had hopped into this race somewhat last minute, somewhat out of desperation to do one final âlong runâ for the season. Inspired by âs essentially solo Mammoth 220, I decided to go no pacers, no crew for this 100-mile adventure. No one to stop me from taking dirt naps! It was just going to be me, my inner monologue, and maybe my post-hardcore playlist. Turns out that the runners, crews, and volunteers who come out to support this race are the nicest people around. Thank you and for bringing pizza and the dogs to a few late-night aid stations, and thank you to, Reidâs dad, Kyla, Max, Mackenzie, and Callie for the laughs and energy. Thank you, Mark, Carlos, and Zeke for sharing some steady miles. You guys rock.

For the first 50-60 miles, I felt like I was racing my best 100-miler ever. đ Steady, calm, focused, excited to see folks on the out-and-backs. With âs advice and mentorship, I came in with a new nutrition strategy. I was running purely by feel, stacking up the climbs and feeling strong on every descent. The Ironton pit crew was impeccable (thanks + team!), sunset was so peaceful from high up on Richmond Pass. Smooth descent down Camp Bird, and then it was the night shift. I knew it would be hard. đ But Tate and I climbed well, skidded down Haydenâs steep switchbacks, and cruised into Fellin just before sunrise. New day! One dirt nap and miles of doubts later, I was finally heading up Bridge of Heaven with Maggie. The lowest of lows⌠I wasnât sure Iâd have energy to make it off the mountain. Thinking about everyone who came out to support my race, I harnessed what power was left and somehow ran the entire, painful descent. 32 hours, 42 minutes, 6th overall.

It felt special returning to this event as a local! The connections Iâve made in Ouray are foreverâtruly a world-class community. Congrats to the fellow runners, and thanks to Charles, Chris, Hollis + team for an excellent weekend. Challenge is fun. đ

I thought a lot about while I was out there. Sally was the one who first inspired me to sign up and give this race a go. Seeing her strength through the relentless desert heat made me wonder. Could I be just as strong? I set big goals and while I was slogging towards Bridger Jack, alone with my thoughts, I questioned if I could achieve what I had set out to do. Would I even make it to the finish line? I was roasting in the sun, heat radiating off the endless red rock, and it was only day two.

What kept me going was knowing Sally was rooting for me, and knowing my crew was waiting for me at mile 114, ready to begin their pacing duties. Kyle reminded me that everyone was there because they believed in meâI just had to keep believing in myself. I felt a shift as soon as I hit the steep (fun!!) climb up to Shay MountainâI was back in it!! Still a long ways to go, but the focus and confidence had returned.

The warm air of the desert morning seeped off the red sandstone cliffs, its comforting tendrils warming the small crowd that had gathered on the valley floor below. Their cheers, echoing off the valley walls, signaled the return of Sarah, the new Moab 240 female champion.â¨â¨No stranger to the 200-mile distance, Sarah was one of the few runners who knew what might transpire as she circumnavigated the small Utah town. However, nothing could have fully prepared her for the journey she had just completed. The dust covered every inch of her being, a physical testament to the landscape she had just traversed.â¨â¨Surrounded by the warmth of the small crowd and the omnipresent energy of the desert morning, she brought her hands to her face, tears beginning to flow freely. She was in complete awe of what had just transpired. Her body ached as she slowly walked toward the small table, its surface covered with the buckles awarded to the race finishers. Yet, undeterred, she moved forward, alight with a smile and the energy that had carried her through the last 240 miles.â¨â¨Choosing her buckle with an almost childlike reverence, she turned to those loved ones who had supported her over the past three days, a smile creasing her dusty face. Tired but indescribably proud, she held up the wooden 1st place trophyâa small trinket that contained a story so vast that nothing in this world could ever capture it.â¨The undeniable female champion of the 200-mile distance, Sarah humbly sat down with those around her, finally giving her body and mind a break, while waiting to cheer for those runners who had yet to complete their journey.â¨â¨We are so proud of you, Sarah.
