I have a great deal of gratitude for the people in my life. The people with whom I choose to give my time and energy to, and an appreciation for when our paths crossed. Gratitude and love for the people I’ve navigated these different chapters of life with. Some have nudged me down various paths, many have supported and guided me on the path in which I met them, and a select few have challenged me to really reflect and consider what journey I want to take. It’s that last group of folks that somehow saw me, like really saw me at a time where I was happy, but going through the motions. That saw I was not only capable of something different, or something more, but in a place to act on it.
The last time was when my jewelry mentor took me on as an apprentice. This Idaho girl who had just finished her PhD, who ended up on the Navajo Reservation, broken hearted, going through a transition looking for meaning and a purpose.
This time, a push to reconnect with parts of me that I had lost in my last relationship. To take advantage of the flexibility I have in my life right now and act on it. To revisit some of the dreams and goals I had written off and actually make them happen. I’ve had a life that’s been full of distinctly different chapters. Which pieces of all those different Sara’s are most important to me? Which parts do I want to nurture and learn more about? And the hard realization that I’ve rarely prioritized myself. I’ve always been the good girl who does what’s expected of her. Gave so much it almost broke me. It’s time to create the life I want and truly set the tone for the next chapter.
To the roads we’ve been on, the roads we are currently on, and the roads that lay ahead.

The last two weeks I’ve made a consistent effort to be in the shop more days than not and it’s felt so good. Reminds me of my old life and getting lost in the work, something I hope to do more and more often. This particular piece of Blue Moon reminded me of lichens, and that particular presentation by my classmate. I love when a seemingly random physical object prompts you to recall a distant memory. This one, while obscure, is a fun memory, and a reminder to me that I often remember the most random little tidbits, and somehow forget the big things. Funny how the brain works sometimes.

Breaking the cycle of old habits is hard. It’s painful and often uncomfortable. It requires forging a new path and re-wiring of old familiar circuits. It requires you to listen to your intuition and not fight it. For me, it requires a lot of analyzation of my past and identifying the feelings and instincts I had a key moments and how those led to the choices I made. Especially in my romantic relationships.
I’m still a hopeless romantic, looking for that love of a lifetime. But this time around, will be more discerning of who I spend time with. More discerning about my needs and whether they are being met. And more discerning with my gut feelings if something doesn’t sit well.
I’m 37, almost 38. Twice married. Do I love that for me? No. But it does not define me. The 37, almost 38yr old me also has 2 graduate degrees, owns her own home, makes a comfortable living, has a support network the size of a one stoplight town, and knows what she brings to the table. She also does this super cool thing where she makes jewelry in her spare time.
Am I shitty sometimes? Impulsive and impatient among a number of other things? Sure am. We all have our bad sides and things we aren’t proud of, but hey, that’s where we learn and grow the most.
2023 was hard. Full of change but full of growth. May we all carry that momentum forward into the new year ❤️
