Finished result of the first casting and paintjob! I had lots of reference pictures of exotic sea life and used a combination of hand painting and airbrushing. The colour system I’m using is by.
The eyes were painted as well and glossed with 5-minute epoxy.
I sculpted the model together with my partner in crime. We alternated in sculpting him in WED clay. After that I moulded him with several layers of silicone and made a support shell out of urethane plastic.
He was then rotocasted in translucent polyurethane plastic and backed up with foam.

I’ve been working (and finished) on some cool stuff within the last couple of months but didn’t feel like posting a lot recently (I will though 😉). I created a couple of silicone likeness (puppet) heads for ’s theatre show, these were used by the actors to puppeteer. Such a fun job! If you have any questions, please let me know.

𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟭.
Finished result without the hair on the head (this was later done by the client’s company itself).
𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟮.
Finished sculpture, sculpted in. I used a very rudimentary face scan of the actor, that was printed at 75% and then moulded and poured up in oil based clay. This helped for the correct placing of the facial features and to accomplish the exact 75% scale. I then removed the eye area to insert the glass eyes and resculpted the face.
𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟯.
Detail and texture of the sculpture. I use the texture rollers by Effekt Studion for a base texture and my other tools for all other texture layers. Most of them are by and.

Dividing wall set up in water based clay. We brushed on several layers of Shell Shock as a gel coat, followed by a coat of Plasti-Paste for strength. Both by.

Ready to do the back half, note the pry-points for inserting a screw driver for easy opening later on. After liberal use of release agents the same layers of plastic were applied.

Finished and cleaned the mould!
𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟳.
First casting clean out of the mould. I brushed several layers of Platgel25 in the open mould. After that I closed the mould and back filled it with soft polyurethane foam. This was done to keep them low in weight.
𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟴.
After the casting process I removed all seams and started colouring. This photo was taken after a few layers of paint (not the finished colouring). I use an acetoxy based silicone as a paint base and mix it with silicone pigments and solvent. I applied the colour with both brush and airbrush.
𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟵.
Individual hairs were punched in the silicone, to create natural eyebrows and eyelashes.
