気のせいかもですが、与那国はピーカンで晴れるとハンマーの出が悪くなるような気がします。海面が温められて下の水と混ざるから潮が乱れるとか、二枚潮になりやすそうとか、なんとなく理屈をつけられるけど、本当のところはよく分かりません。神子元ではそんな感覚はないんですけどね〜
たまに、流れが変わるジャストタイミングでグッとまとまって、ものすごい爆群れになる事がある…けど、正直シーズン中一回見れればラッキーかな。人生、何事もタイミングですね

なんだかんだで友達と潜るのが楽しい。ハンマーやタイガーやジンベエたち… ごく稀にヒトの友達とも😂
もう一つ今年について言えるのは、ハンマーが深い！もちろん浅いこともあるけど、40m以下の深い時が多いと思います。大きな個体が悠然と水底を群れている様子は、とても与那国らしいとは思いますが。
なんだか今年の与那国ハンマーはデカくて寄りやすい。前に回っても、いつもより嫌がってない感じです。子供だけの群れも多いし、若いもんだけの群れも綺麗にまとまってる事が多い。なんだか黒潮大蛇行前に戻ってきたみたい… やっぱり与那国にも影響あったんだな、と今更実感。
潜る前だけでなく、潜っている最中にも船長がソナーでハンマーを見つけて、近くに来ると教えてくれます。船の向きでなんとなく方向は分かるので、合図があるとすぐに深度を下げて見回します。透明度が悪くて船が見えないと、どーしようもないですが。

It’s a special image for me, as it’s one of few photos I like that’s not of sharks, and it was awarded the grand winner of Japan Underwater Photo Contest 2023🎉 It’s the first time of the contest, but quite a serious one - inviting Japan’s greatest UW photographers as the judges, with the grand prize of ¥500,000! Although, half of that will go to repairing my housing..😂
この度、第一回日本水中フォトコンテストのグランプリに選ばれました🙏 ヨナラ水道のマンタが、ダイバーのそばで求愛ダンスを踊っている様子です。マンタはもちろん、我々ダイバーの海に対する思いや業も含めて、「求愛」と題しました。
錚々たる審査員の方々に評価をいただき、50万円の賞金まで… 授賞式から祝勝会へと、大変思い出深い一日となりました。この経験をきっかけに、更なる精進をしていきたいと思います！

去年から少し真面目にフォトコンを狙ってみようと思って、ずっと注目していたUPY (Underwater Photographer of the Year)に応募していました。550人近い世界の猛者たちの、6000枚ほどの作品の中で、激戦区のワイド部門で勝ち残れたのは本当に嬉しいです🥹課題も色々見つかったし、次回からはもっと上位入賞を狙っていきたいです。
まずは、ファンダイブのついでに撮っているだけの現状を何とかしなくては… どうしたもんだか🤔
