👑 Once prized by kings for sport, red and fallow deer were brought to Richmond Park in the 17th century by King Charles I. Back then, the park was fenced to keep the deer enclosed for royal hunting.
Today, around 600 of these deer roam freely across 2,500 acres of wild grasslands, ancient oaks, and hidden ponds — no fences, just nature shared with joggers, picnickers, and photographers.
🔍 After walking for 30 minutes, I finally spotted a deer with its baby. I waited quietly, and more appeared… then I kept exploring and found even more scattered throughout the park. The excitement of searching for these majestic creatures felt like a true urban safari.
📍 Just 30 minutes from central London, this Royal Park is also a National Nature Reserve.
🚆 Getting there: District Line or South Western Railway to Richmond Station, then walk 15–20 mins or take a quick bus to the gates.
‼️ Deer safety: Keep at least 50 m away, especially during rutting (autumn) & birthing (spring).
✨ Tip: Visit early or on a weekday for quieter trails & better wildlife sightings.
