At Parrish Middle School, PE teacher Maylea Woods is proving that our students can do hard things. Thanks to a grant from the Maps Credit Union, Maylea was able to bring her vision of a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program to life with brand-new kettlebells, dumbbells and plyo boxes.

“I want students to experience challenging exercises,” says Maylea. “It teaches them that they can do hard things and they’re capable of pushing themselves outside their comfort zone.”
“I feel ready for my future.” 🎓✨

The SKPS Career and Technical Education team and AVID coordinators recently hosted an incredible series of Career Connections mock interview events where local business leaders helped students polish their resumes and practice those vital soft skills.

Students told us that having a safe place to learn made all the difference. While the walk to the interview table started with some nerves, the walk away was full of confidence.

Shout out to our talented student interviewers from South Salem High School. Gaby, Raya and Kennedi went behind the scenes to capture these stories and talk to their peers about the experience.

This massive community effort was made possible by the generous support of Maps Credit Union Foundation, Willamette Workforce Partnership, and Chemeketa Community College. Thank you for supporting our next generation of leaders.
Meet Ben Dalgas, a bilingual educator at Claggett Creek Middle School! Ben’s journey with SKPS began as an intern and volunteer before he transitioned into a career as a licensed bilingual teacher with the support of district programs.

“I have had many impactful mentors at Claggett and across Salem-Keizer schools. With the support of the district, I was able to complete a master’s program and become a licensed teacher. Each day, I have the opportunity to be part of students’ growth and success, and I am proud to be an educator in Salem-Keizer Public Schools.”

Dual Language educators are vital in fostering a culture of belonging and academic excellence, ensuring students can thrive in multiple languages. By bridging language and culture, these teachers empower students to succeed in a global world while staying connected to their community. #WeAreSalemKeizer
We are incredibly proud of educators Jessica Miller and Brennan Young for their world-class leadership in Unified Sports. What started as a vision for inclusion right here in our district has now reached the international stage.

Brennan and Jessica were two of only ten coaches selected globally for Nike’s world-wide coach developer project with the Special Olympics. They traveled to Europe to represent the United States, and they are now certified to train coaches across the globe!

But despite their international success, their hearts remain with our students. From the Saxon Cup to the Viking Games, these two are proving that on the field of play, there are no limits—only opportunities.

Please join us in celebrating these two incredible leaders! #WeAreSalemKeizer 🏆
Meet Janet Mager, a community member with a big heart for our educators. Janet has been busy handcrafting and donating more than 600 lavender relaxation pillows. That's one for every elementary teacher in the district! She isn’t stopping there, though; she’s currently working her way through our middle and high schools, too.

Janet knows that supporting our students starts with supporting the well-being of our staff. These pillows are a gentle reminder for our teachers to pause, breathe, and remember how much they are valued. Thank you, Janet, for stitching so much care and kindness into our schools! 🧵✨
Meet Kate Henley, a Speech-Language Pathologist at Sumpter Elementary who has been part of SKPS for four years!

“Since joining SKPS, I’ve built deep relationships with staff and watched my students grow. I love the variety that my school offers: beyond articulation and fluency, I work primarily with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) users in our self-contained classrooms. SKPS is a great place to start my career and has allowed me to grow my confidence and skills as an SLP.”

Speech-Language Pathologists play a critical role in student success by breaking down communication barriers and providing students with the tools to express themselves.
