Free. Family-friendly. Unmistakably Salem.
Picture it: the juried gallery at Old Town Hall, artists painting 8'×4'
murals live at Artists' Row, the artisan street fair spilling down the
blocks, and stages full of music, dance, and circus arts around every
corner. That's a Salem Arts Festival weekend — and the 19th is going to be one to remember.
Mark your calendars now. Artist, vendor, and performer calls will openin the months ahead — follow along so you don't miss a thing.
June 4–6, 2027. We'll see you downtown. 🧡

Congratulations to Ammy Gonzalez, winner of the 2026 SalemArts Festival Mural Slam! Ammy's panel took the top spot with 224 community votes — about 38% of every ballot cast at Artists' Row.
Ammy is a Dominican-born artist and designer studying graphic design at MassArt, with work rooted in storytelling and the way our surroundings shape who we become. Watching that come to life on an 8'×4' panel this June? Unforgettable.
But here's the thing about the Mural Slam: twelve artists showed up,
brushes in hand, and painted live in front of the whole city across
festival weekend. Every one of them made Artists' Row worth standing in.
Thank you to the full 2026 slate:

Twelve muralists. Twelve 8'×4' panels. Two days of public art you could watch happen. That's the Mural Slam. 🧡

From a morning reading of the Declaration on Salem Common to fireworks over the harbor at night, here's how to spend Saturday, July 4 in Salem:
First, on Salem Common —
9:00 AM — the Salem Common Neighborhood Association's annual Declaration of Independence reading, with historic reenactors, remarks from local officials, and music. Community, history, and the 250th, the way the Common has done it for generations.
Then, down at Derby Wharf —
3:30 PM — Rule of 3 opens the Main Stage
5:30 PM — Barrence Whitfield & His All Star Band bring the soul, courtesy of the Salem Jazz & Soul Festival
7:15 PM — Opening Ceremonies + the National Anthem
7:30 PM — the Hillyer Festival Orchestra "Pops" concert, led by conductor Dr. Dirk Hillyer: Sousa, Copland, a narrated Lincoln Portrait, and a brand-new fanfare — "Daybreak in America" — written just for America's 250th
9:15 PM — Fireworks Extravaganza over the water, scored live by the orchestra
And this year hits different: 2026 is Salem's 400th AND America's 250th — so expect a little more of everything.
Bring a blanket, stake out your patch of grass early, and settle in for one of the best nights on the North Shore. The Derby Wharf celebration is free, on the grounds of Salem Maritime National Historic Site, presented by the City of Salem — and dedicated to the memory of James Bailey, one of the people who made this celebration what it is.
Save this for the schedule, and send it to whoever you're spending the Fourth with. 🇺🇸
