Chugoku is the westernmost region on Japan’s main island of Honshu, and since the bullet train only goes through the south side of the region, what’s left is just too time-consuming to get to for most people. I road tripped through Chugoku with my mom for two weeks, and these are a few of the photos I took. YouTube video dropping tomorrow.

PS. Before the Hiroshima fans come at me, it’s the only one of the five prefectures in Chugoku I’ve seen a bit of, and there was only so much we could get to, so unfortunately it didn’t make it in this itinerary…

My mom visited me in Japan for a couple weeks this month and we drove through most of Chugoku region together. Chugoku is the least visited region on the main island of Honshu, yet it's filled with beautiful landscapes and rich culture and history. To top it off, we got nothing but beautiful weather and the lush spring greenery was such a refreshing sight. Here are a few of my favourite clips from the YouTube video I'm putting together!
Shimane was ranked as Japan’s least visited prefecture in 2024. It’s no wonder, with no bullet train stops or much connectivity to large urban areas in general, it’s simply difficult to get to. However, it rewards any who are able to visit with quaint countryside, what’s regarded as the oldest shrine in Japan, one of the most impressive of the 12 original castles, and beautiful coastlines. The photos I took here are some of my favourite in a while.
I’ve been trying my hand at using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K on some of my explorations around Japan. I’m mind blown by the sheer amount of control you have in post when using Blackmagic RAW, like being able to adjust exposure and white balance in post without loss of data. Thanks to for lending me this bad boy to play around with for the past couple months!

I had to make the call to not bring my van to Okinawa when I found out how expensive it would be. Luckily exists, because I still got to explore the main island in a camping car 😌
Yoron Island, just 25km north of the Okinawa main island, is actually the southernmost island of Kagoshima prefecture and part of Kyushu.

Close enough to Okinawa to share many aspects of culture but with a distinct identity, history, and island pride that was apparent in everyone we met.

We had the pleasure of staying in the stunning which made our visit here absolutely incredible. Add this place to your bucket list!
I’ve been in Okinawa for the past couple weeks, and while I honestly didn’t have high hopes for the main island, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how many hidden gems there are. Not only that, I’ve been able to keep up my usual style of travel by exploring with ’s camping cars, finishing the days with beautiful park-ups right on the ocean. Cannot complain 😌👌🏼
