Have a nice weekend!
Never give up and believe in your dreams.
2 weeks until it’s go-time at. 🏔️ Been wanting to race this one for a long time, and I can’t wait to head south again.

But here’s the thing — racing’s better with people around it. So who’s in for an easy spin before or after? I’m thinking a short recovery community ride the Monday after the race. Nothing serious, just legs spinning, coffee, and good company.

Drop a comment if you’re keen and I’ll sort out the details.

Slovakia. Track. 16x9. Vibes.
Ironman Hamburg got sabotaged today. 💔

Someone scattered metal shards across the bike course — and in a single stretch of road, the dreams of hundreds of athletes were destroyed. Months of training. Early mornings. Sacrifices no one ever sees. Gone.

Why? How can anyone be cruel enough to take that away from so many people at once?

And the worst part — right now, no one even knows if someone got injured out there.

So many dreams broken in seconds. 🖤
Ironman Hamburg is around the corner – and it brings back a lot of memories.

This is where it all started for me. In 2018 I did my first ever Ironman here, just one year after switching from semi-professional handball to endurance sports.

It was a strange one: the swim got cancelled, so we ran 50 km in total that day. I rode a 4:37 – more than half an hour slower than the winner in my age group,. And I ran a 3:15 marathon, around half an hour slower than what I was able to run in 2024.

But I loved every minute of it. I had so much respect for the distance that I paced it way more conservatively than I would today.

What I’m most proud of: I’ve trained consistently from that day until now. No major injuries, no long breaks. Consistency really is the key.

That race made me fall in love with this sport.

And most importantly – was on course back then, and she still is today. That’s the best part

Have a great race out there everyone. Enjoy it!
I love to train. Or better: I love being active in nature. Swim, bike, run — it’s part of our lifestyle.

But I also love to race. Even with the nerves. I guess it’s the type-2 fun I’m addicted to: challenging myself and seeing what I can deliver on the day.

After 8 years in this sport, I know my body well. I know when I’m in shape, and I know when a discipline is lacking. And here’s something I want to pass on: you don’t have to be in your best shape ever to race. It’s completely fine to challenge yourself with the shape you have right now. Most of us have a daily life that constantly throws things in the way of “perfect” preparation — and that’s okay.

That’s why I do a lot of races. I need the thrill, and I love meeting so many of you out on the course.

Would I recommend a double race weekend? Honestly, I’m not sure. It works for me because I’m robust and recover fast — built on years of consistent workload, week after week. But here’s what I took away from it:

1. Pre-race nerves hit less the second time. Routines and confidence kick in — but stay focused so you don’t forget the essentials.

2. Be confident training less between races. The work is already done. It’s just about maintaining load and keeping the body active. I only do short sessions with race-pace intervals plus easy recovery work.

3. Don’t overeat. After carb-loading comes carb-loading again. 😅 Your body needs fuel to recover from race 1 — but keep it good carbs. Save the bad ones to celebrate after race 2.

4. Take time off afterwards. I needed 3–4 days to clear my mind and body. Staying that focused for so long is mentally demanding — at least for me.

5. Bring your friends. Talk about something other than sport. It keeps you calm and relaxed.

6. Don’t skip strength and mobility while travelling. In race week it’s essential to keep the body together.

7. Celebrate that you had a good time. No matter the result.

Have you ever done a back-to-back race weekend? What’s your experience?
Vibes.

Because so many people are new here, let me introduce myself (again).

Sport first — that’s probably why you’re here:
I started endurance sports in 2017. Finished my First marathon sub3. Since then: 5× Ironman finisher, all sub-9h. Best race: Challenge Roth – 8:08:04.

Before that: 20 years of handball (up to 3rd Bundesliga). Never had talent — just hard work.

I’m part of — the team of. We’re a group of friends doing events and creating content to make cycling (and endurance sports) cool again.

Why this channel exists:
To bring together my experience as a racer, my coaching knowledge, and my creative perspective. To share insights that help you train smarter and race better.

Side hustles:
Triathlon coach — coaching 15 athletes 1:1 with.
Content creator — for photography and storytelling.

The transformation:
Handball days: 120kg bench press at 125kg bodyweight.
Today: racing at 80kg. That’s 45kg less. Different sport. Different body. Same drive.

A bit more personal:
Ruben, 35, Hamburg. Relationship for 13 years. Grew up in the real north of Germany.
I work in innovation at a large German media house. Background in strategy, research, and prototyping. I love complexity and solving problems that don’t have obvious answers.

I’m an INTJ. Restless. Can’t sit still. Love organizing complex things, need challenges constantly. Type 2 fun is my comfort zone.

I follow one principle: invest time in knowledge → long-term benefit. Focus on what you can control.
That’s why I work a lot and need multiple challenges. One job isn’t enough.

That’s me.
