I realise I forgot to post properly about this treasure picked up last year in my local antiques place. A beautiful book “Silver and Gold” by Norman Hartnell who made many spectacular outfits for the royal family. It features many of his beautiful drawings of the spectacular creations. Since many of his creations are currently on show at The King’s Gallery, I thought you might like to see these pictures 👗

It never takes me long when in the UK to stumble across a beautiful royal find in a antiques or charity shop! Today a collector’s book for cigarette cards showing beautifully the outfits of the 1937 coronation 👑

Did you ever see these rooms in the Louvre?

They are the Napoleon III appointments and I have never been to the Louvre when they’ve been open. But big thanks to a colleague who managed to get us a wonderful private tour.

One off my Paris bucket list for sure! ✔️

Equestrian statue of Elizabeth II, Windsor Great Park

Dedicated in 2003, it actually depicts the Queen as she would have looked in the 1970s.

This was the first public statue of the Queen in the UK.

Winchester Cathedral is home to several ancient mortuary chests, including those of Alfred the Great, King Egbert, King Canute and his wife Queen Emma, William Rufus (William II).

Their bones were placed in beautiful caskets, but these were disturbed during the English Civil War and many bones were lost or become mixed up with those of other individuals.

With advances in modern technology, a new team of researchers is currently working to find out more about the inhabitants of Winchester’s famous mortuary chests.

The first pictures show chests used in mid 1400s. The later pictures the current resting place of the bones.
