We were expecting some aurora activity and hiked up to get above the fog... but she was shy and didnโt show herself until 12:30am (we were already in bed by then ๐ฅน). There was some purple in the sky at one point and the camera easily picked it up, but the colour wasnโt visible to the naked eye. It still made for some good images. Shot entirely on the phone ๐คณ

Last month we spent a week testing the Ford F-150 Lightning Flash and finally got to try hands-free driving! And we wonโt lie, letting go of the steering wheel on the highway isnโt something you do lightly. It felt weird and definitely got Andyโs heart racing, but after a while, it started to feel pretty normal and enjoyable. The F-150 was a great vehicle to try this feature and we were impressed!
Fordโs hands-free highway driving technology is called BlueCruise. When you enter a pre-qualified section of highway called a Blue Zone (available on 97% of controlled-access highways in the US and Canada!) a prompt appears on the instrument cluster that you can switch to hands-free. You just press a button on the steering wheel and the car takes over.
In the video, you can see the steering wheel moving and keeping the truck in its lane. You still need to keep your eyes on the road and a driver-facing infrared camera tracks your eyes to make sure that you can resume control at any moment. So you are still responsible for the vehicle, but you can go miles without needing to intervene! ๐

We love hiking Dog Mountain for sunset in winter and walking back in the dark. There arenโt many people around, everything is quiet and the snow reflects just enough light to make the trail feel calm rather than spooky. Full moon nights are extra magical! ๐โจ
Butโwinter hiking takes more planning and preparation than hiking in summer. If you want to try it, start with an easy trail youโve done before in daylight. Bring a headlamp with spare batteries, microspikes for traction and dress in layers so you donโt sweat (once you stop moving the moisture gets cold very quickly). A warm hat and gloves make a big difference and bring tissues, some water and always tell someone where youโre going.
Dog Mountain is a great intro to winter hikes around Vancouver (both day and night) because itโs well marked and well travelled during the day. Unless there has been a lot of fresh snowfall, you rarely need snowshoes.
