Yesterday, our little slice of the LA car world gathered our cars together for our almost-annual photoshoot, a tradition started in the summer of 2024. It’s a great way to visualize how our garages have changed over the last year or so, and while it takes a LOT of coordination getting this many of us together at once (we rescheduled about 47 times), it’s always so worth it. And there’s been quite a bit of change! Only three vehicles are in both this year’s photo and our original 2024 shot (see slide 4).

Also pictured: BTS, including & providing much-needed extra elevation to achieve the desired angle – anything for the shot, as they say 🤷🏼‍♂️
Hello and welcome to RMG.wrapped 2025 📸 This was a tough year for me in many ways, but cars were always a bright spot and I’m happy with how my photography developed alongside the many incredible vehicles, moments, and people I was lucky enough to experience. Looking forward to 2026 🥂
The Genesis G90 is a winner because it’s different.

The G90 isn’t trying to be a massive technology showcase in the same way an S-Class is. Rather, it’s a more old-school approach to luxury that is SO refreshing in the current era of (often overly) tech-forward vehicles. The G90 carries itself with character, panache, and style that is hard to come by in modern cars. If you’re looking for the most bleeding edge tech, you won’t quite find it here, but to me, true luxury is more about a sense of occasion and tactile experience, and the G90 nails both. You’re also unlikely to see another on the road, which might make you feel a little more exclusive.

This is the Prestige Black trim, and while I’m usually not a fan of black cars nor black trim packages, the commitment to the bit really sells this one. Of course, the requisite chrome trim and grille have been blacked out, but the chunky wheels, dark badging, and black anodized trim inside make it feel cohesive and intentional, like real thought was put into the package.

I’m not going to argue that the G90 is as technically dominant as an S-Class – it isn’t, though it’s about 90% of the way there, and I don’t think you can find anything else new that’s nearly this luxurious for around $100,000. But I AM going to argue that, right now, maybe not trying to out-S-Class the S-Class is actually a good thing.

It’s been a strong, eclectic last couple weeks in cars. My top highlight has to be the reopening of The Snake in Malibu, which had been closed almost the entire time I’ve lived in California. Now that I’ve finally had a chance to drive it, I get the hype: it’s a perfectly twisty piece of road with stunning views to match. Even better, its reopening has made for some rather wonderful gatherings of machinery around Mullholland Highway lately.

Honorable mentions include checking out ’s stunning Verdant Jade Valkyrie at the garage, spending an all too brief 30 minutes at ’s annual toy drive, shooting ’s gorgeous pair of Alpina Z8s with, and a bit of bopping around with in ’ Meyers Manx (which did also slightly try to kill me while push starting it, oopsie). Oh, and driving the fantastic Genesis G90 Prestige Black for the last few days; more on that to come 👀
Quick thoughts & iPhone shots on my 18 hours with the Defender Octa: This thing ROCKS.

First of all, look at it! With its flared fenders, forged carbon accents, chunky wheels and tires, and orange marker lights in the front grille, the Octa looks properly badass. The overall look is tough but stealthy, and it just makes you feel so cool driving around.

Under the hood is a 626-hp 4.4L TTV8, the same motor you’ll find in the new BMW M5. However, having driven both, I found the engine to be a lot more fun in the Octa. While I wish the soundtrack was a bit throatier, a 3.8-second 0-60 in an SUV as heavy (~6,000 lbs.) this heavy and boxy feels wild, especially in something that isn’t electric. Plus, if you twist the drive mode knob into Octa (softer suspension but most aggressive engine/transmission), there’s a big ol’ squat under acceleration, which is super fun. But if you’d rather feel more planted, Dynamic mode will be your friend. I didn’t have a chance to off-road it, but stay tuned to channels for an upcoming off-road comparison test.

I love the high seating position; it feels fittingly commanding in a vehicle like this. The seats are comfy and look super cool, especially the forged carbon seat backs, but the rest of the interior is pretty much identical to what you’ll find in a $56,000 base Defender… which is maybe not ideal given this car’s $167,000 MSRP. I also hate – HATE – the Ultrafabric faux-leather in this test car; it feels rubbery and super cheap. Thankfully, semi-aniline leather is also available.

People love to hate on the Octa’s price point, but after my (admittedly limited) time with it, I’m left wondering why. Its closest competitor is the G63, and that’s easily well-over $200,000 with options, especially if you want the off-road package. It does have a nicer interior, but the Octa is quicker, more powerful, and costs ~$40,000 less. Doesn’t seem so overpriced to me!

can I have one pls 🫶🏼
Seems like every day is Christmas at 🤤
Aston Martin has long been one of my all-time favorite brands – I even interned at the North American HQ during college – so when I found out that was curating an exhibit of the brand’s history, I was thrilled. Very impressed by the cars they brought together here, really special and absolutely gorgeous machinery showcasing some of the highest-performance Astons ever.
Still can’t believe I actually made my flight to the morning after Halloween, but it couldn’t have been more worth the early wake-up call 🥂
