A polyp is an abnormal growth inside the colon that can vary in size and shape. Some polyps are completely harmless, while others are considered precancerous and have the potential to turn into colon cancer over time.
That is why every polyp found during a colonoscopy is removed and examined closely by a pathologist.
Colonoscopies are not just about detecting cancer. They help prevent it.
Save this so you understand why screening matters and share it with someone who has questions about colon polyps.

Many people avoid screening because they are nervous about the procedure, but colonoscopies are considered very low risk. In fact, the risk of serious complications like perforation is less than 0.1%.
More importantly, a colonoscopy can detect and even prevent colon cancer before it starts.
Peace of mind is powerful, and prevention matters.
Save this as your reminder to prioritize your health and share it with someone who has been putting off their screening. If you are 45 or older, it may be time to get checked.

I treat the full spectrum of anorectal conditions and match the approach to what your body actually needs. Sometimes that's a quick office procedure. Sometimes surgery is the right call, and when it is, the evidence shows it delivers the best long-term results. The goal is always the right solution for you, never a cookie-cutter plan.
Relief is closer than you think. Call or visit to schedule your consultation.

A change in stool shape or caliber is not something to ignore. Thin, pencil-like stools can sometimes mean there is a narrowing in the large intestine. This may happen from scarring after repeated diverticulitis, but in some cases it can also be caused by something more serious, including colon cancer.
Your body notices changes for a reason.
Save this so you know what to watch for and share it with someone who may be ignoring symptoms. If your bowel habits suddenly change, it is important to get evaluated.

A new Phase II clinical trial launching in 2026 is studying whether adding GLP-1 medications like semaglutide to standard rectal cancer therapy can improve outcomes in patients with obesity.
Researchers are exploring whether improving metabolism and lowering inflammation could help cancer treatment work better.
Why this matters:
Obesity affects inflammation, immune signaling, and tumor behavior โ especially in colorectal cancer.
This study will track:
โข Tumor response
โข Circulating tumor DNA
โข Recurrence rates
โข Survival outcomes
Important:
GLP-1 medications are NOT currently standard treatment for rectal cancer, and this research is still ongoing.
But this may represent a major shift in how we think about cancer care in the future.
๐ฌ Would you want to see more research on metabolism and cancer treatment?

Here's what the research shows: IBS does not raise your risk of diverticulitis. But diverticulitis can cause IBS-like symptoms to develop afterward, which is exactly why people mix them up. Similar symptoms, different problems, different treatments.
If your symptoms keep returning or haven't improved with your current approach, it's time for a specialist to sort out what's really going on. You deserve a clear answer ๐
Call to schedule your consultation.

For most patients, yes. Ventral mesh rectopexy carries about an 83% success rate, with the majority experiencing full correction and low recurrence. This isn't a guess. It's a proven, minimally invasive approach performed by a specialist who treats this condition regularly. ๐ฉบ
You don't have to keep living around this. Relief is real, and it's closer than you think.

He was born and raised in Haiti and left home to attend medical school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City, arriving without knowing a single word of Spanish. He learned the language, earned his degree, and continued forward with the quiet determination that would define his life.
He immigrated to the United States and completed his general surgery training at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, where he met my mother, the charge nurse in the ICU. Together, they built both a family and a life rooted in medicine and service.
He went on to complete a prestigious cardiovascular fellowship under Dr. Michael E. DeBakey at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. He was later recruited to Midland, Texas, where he became the only Black surgeon serving the West Texas community for decades.
For forty years, he built a thriving vascular and general surgery practice. He retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy not just of surgical excellence, but of integrity.
My father taught me that there is no hierarchy in a hospital. Every person has a critical role and we are all part of a team working to heal patients. He didnโt just say the words, he lived them, and I saw it every time I shadowed him as a child and teenager.
In honoring him during Black History Month, I honor the courage it took to leave Haiti, learn a new language, train in new systems and serve communities that had never seen a surgeon who looked like him.
He showed me what it meant to be a good doctor, a great surgeon and an even better person.
Happy Birthday to me ๐ฅณ and thank you, Dad ๐๐พโค๏ธ.
This recognition means so much, but not because of the title itself. Itโs a reflection of the patients who trust me during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Itโs a reflection of the incredible team that supports me. And itโs a reminder that compassionate, thoughtful, evidence-based care still matters.
To my incredible family and my two lovely daughters: thank you for your endless patience, encouragement, and love. You are my grounding force and my greatest joy.
To my friends and colleagues: thank you for pushing me to grow, for cheering me on, and for reminding me why community matters in medicine.
To every patient whoโs walked through my door, thank you for your trust. Thank you for allowing me into your lives at some of the hardest and most intimate moments. You inspire me every day to lead with compassion, clarity, and care.
If youโve ever felt dismissed, ignored, or rushed in a doctorโs office, know that you deserve better. My mission has always been to make sure you feel seen, heard, and cared for with clarity, kindness, and no fluff. Thank you for letting me do this work.
Hereโs to continued learning, listening, and leading with heart.

Breaking barriers. Defying odds. Changing the face of medicine.
Being a Black woman in medicine means carrying the weight of history while forging a new path forward. With only 2.8% of U.S. physicians being Black women, every step I take in this field is an act of resilience, every patient I care for is a testament to our excellence, and every challenge I overcome is a door opened for someone else.
I am proof that representation matters. That young Black girls dreaming of a career in medicine deserve to see someone who looks like them. That diversity in healthcare isnโt just about numbersโitโs about changing lives, building trust, and ensuring that every patient, no matter their background, receives the care they deserve.
This #BlackHistoryMonth, I stand with every Black woman who came before me and every young girl who will come after. We are not just making historyโwe are history in motion. We are the dream and the legacy. And we will not be the last. ๐ช๐ฟ #blackwomenphysicians #breakingbarriers #stem #womenphysicians
