After Ostuni, we went to Cisternino, which is only about 20 minutes drive away but the roads are very narrow (even though they’re two way roads) so keep that in mind!
The historic centre of Cisternino is quite small and it was very quiet, there were very few people around. It seemed like a true hidden gem. The locals must have been resting to avoid the heat in the middle of the day, and most cafés, restaurants were either closed or empty but I believe they come to life in the evening. 🍷
The old town has some charming streets and buildings decorated with colourful doors and windows, vintage lamps, lush plants and flowers and you’ll see some poems written on the walls, staircases and wooden swings hanging on the alleyways. 🌺
As the town sits on top of a hill, you can see sweeping views of the countryside, olive groves and the Adriatic sea from here! 🫒
Make sure to add this little hidden gem in Puglia, if you’re in the nearby Ostuni! It’s one of my favourites from the whole trip.

Not gonna lie, this took so much time but I had fun digging through the archives and and making these collages 🖼️
One of my favourite things of photography and editing is bringing out the colours just as they look to me at the moment. Like the bright yellows and oranges in the alleyways of Villefranche-sur-mer, the stunning azure blue waters in Nice or the iconic green chairs of the Parisian gardens. And when I revisit the pictures, I am taken back to the lovely trips I was able to go on. 🩵📸

On Day 2 of our road trip, we visited Ostuni in the morning and spent a few hours here. Starting the say early and visiting in the morning was a perfect way to beat the crowds as it can get quite busy.
Here’s how you can spend your time at this beautiful city in Puglia:
- Grab a cappuccino at a cafe at Piazza della Libertà, a charming plaza in Ostuni surrpounded by beautiful architecture, monuments, shops and cafés. ☕️
- Stroll around the Historical Old Town, visiting local artisan shops along the way and get yourself an authentic souvenir from Puglia, such as ceramics, olive oil, artworks, etc. 🖼️
- Visit the Arco Scoppa archway at the highest point of the town, grab a drink at one of the cafés right by this elegant arch. 🏛️
- Next to the arch, you can visit the Cathedral of Ostuni (Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta), whose origins date back to 10th century, and was rebuilt in a Gothic style in the late 15th century, giving it the appearance it still retains today. ⛪️
- Continue wandering around the charming alleyways around the cathedral, admiring the beautiful architecture and colourful doorways. 🌵
- Grab a light lunch around Via Vito Tamborrino, located just steps away from Piazza della Libertà in the heart of Ostuni. Get some gelato at reviewed as one of the best Gelateria in Italy. 🍨
- Wander alongside the city walls surrounding Ostuni, from where you can see panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the Adriatic Sea. 🌊
- Go to Piazzetta Martiri delle Foibe - Belvedere di Ostuni, viewpoint from where you can enjoy a panoramic and stunning view of the city. 📷
- If you’re visiting Ostuni on a Saturday, you can visit the traditional open air market, Mercato del Sabato, perfect place to shop for seasonal produce, local cheeses, wines, and household items. 🍓

After Monopoli, we drove to Polignano a Mare with a quick stop at the Abbey of San Vito. Polignano a Mare is one of the most stunning coastal town in Puglia with dramatic cliffs, stunning views of the beautiful Adriatic Sea and charming old town with narrow winding streets. Compared to Monopoli, Polignano a Mare is a bit more touristic, so expect larger crowds here.
Things to do in Polignano a Mare:
- Like the rest of Puglia, Polignano a Mare has a historical centre with limestone houses and narrow cobblestone streets. Enter through the old gate, Porta Vecchia, and wander through the streets and charming corners of the city. 🏘️
- Visit the main square, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, where there is also a cathedral that you can visit. This is a great place to enjoy a drink in the heart of old town. 🍷
- Enjoy a coastal walk along the Lungomare and stop by the viewpoints for gorgeous views of the cliffs, the sea and the whitewashed buildings. Some popular viewpoints are Balconata Vico Gualdella, Pietra Piatta and Belvedere Terazza Santo Stefano. 🌊
- Visit the bridge Ponte Borbonico di Lama Monachile, which offers you the iconic view of Lama Monachile beach between the two high cliffs 🌉
- Sunbathe and go for a swim in the Lama Monachile beach. There were hardly any people on the beach when we visited since it was very cold and waves were rough, but it can get very busy in hot summer days. ⛱️
- If you’d like to experience the famous cave dining at Grotta Palazzese overlooking the sea, make your reservations well in advance. 🍝
- If you’re looking for a nice souvenir, you can shop for handmade ceramics in many shops in the old town. 🫖
- For dinner, we went to and had really good pizza’s, would recommend! 🍕

Read caption below for things to do in Monopoli.
I finally have a plan to post a series from Puglia, because I had the longest instagram hiatus after we did a road trip there. I have a lot of content and shared a couple of them. If you look further down on my page, I made almost this exact post with all the intention of making it a series, but never finished it 😅🫣 so let’s hope this time is a success!
Monopoli was our first stop in Puglia, after flying into Bari and spending that day at our B&B near Ostuni. Monopoli is a coastal town in Puglia on the Adriatic Coast.
Here are some things to do in Monopoli:
• Explore the Centro Storico, the historic centre, wandering through the charming narrow streets, admiring the old white washed stone buildings with colourful green shutters.💚
• Visit some of the churches of the old town, such as Cattedrale Maria Santissima della Madia & Chiesa di San Salvatore. There are almost 20 churches in the old town alone. 🔔
• Walk along the lungomare, the seafront promenade that surrounds the old town overlooking the turquoise waters of the Adriatic. 🌊
• Visit the Porto Antico harbour, a charming old port where you’ll find colourful blue fishing boats with the 16th century fortress, Castello Carlo V and Palazzo Palmieri in the background. 🏰
• If you’d like to enjoy the beaches of Monopoli, you can visit the Cala Porto Vecchia right along the seafront promenade or Cala Porto Rosso a bit further away. 🏖️
• Sit and relax at the Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, the square where you will find cafe’s and restaurants. 🍷
• For lunch, try the typical Puglian Orecchiette Pasta, we had lunch at 🍝
• Get some Gelato’s at Frescolatte Monopoli Gelaterie di Puglia
After Monopoli, we continued on to Polignano a Mare, which I’ll share on my next post. 🥰

Monteliusvägen is located on a cliff of Södermalm island and you can get here by climbing uphill from the Slussen station, and on the way you can see the bright yellow buildings. There is a pathway around the hill, which offers panoramic and unobstructed views of Stockholm’s Old Town (Gamla Stan), Lake Mälaren, Riddarholmen, and Stockholm City Hall. 📷
This is also a popular spot for sunsets in the city although we didn’t go there at sunset. To be honest, despite the bright photos and colourful views, the winds were very strong and cold when we were there so we spent very little time here. If you find yourself in Södermalm on a sunny day, then definitely add this viewpoint to your list for sunset views! ☀️

I would recommend spending a few hours here, letting yourself get lost in the charming cobblestone streets and colourful architecture. Some of the notable places to see in Gamla Stan are:
- Stortorget: square with the iconic colourful houses of Stockholm and Nobel Prize museum
- Storkyrkan: Stockholm Cathedral with the pink tower
- The Royal Palace: we missed it but you can see the changing of palace guards in the courtyard daily from April to August
- Tyska Brinken: a beautiful sloping street from where you can see Södermalm across the water
- Mårten Trotzigs Gränd: narrowest street in Stockholm in the heart of Gamla Stan

If you want to avoid crowds, go here in the morning. We were here around 9AM and still on time to enjoy it without massive crowds. We were also here the day before in the afternoon and the crowd was insane 😭
I booked this trip months ago, without doing any research on when the peak time for cherry blossoms would be and I did not know either that this place existed at the time, so it was a lovely surprise 🌸
Save if you are planning to visit Stockholm soon, or if you’d like to plan for next year.
