Por conta do atraso na colheita anterior, mais de 35% da área total de milho foi plantada tardiamente em março (entre os dias 7, 8 e 10).
O clima jogou contra: abril teve pouquíssima chuva e as precipitações de maio chegaram tarde para o milho que pendoava.
O resultado são espigas mal preenchidas ("com chupeta") e sem peso de grão, especialmente em solos mistos plantados após o dia 10 de março.
A produtividade estimada para essas áreas críticas despencou para uma faixa entre 60 e 90 sacas, com média cravada em 75 sacas por hectare.
Esse volume não paga o custo de produção, e agora os agricultores esperam as máquinas para colher e quantificar o tamanho real do prejuízo.
