We quit our jobs and are going to travel through the Pacific and Asia for a maximum of 1 year. Our first stop is New Zealand ๐ณ๐ฟโจโฃโฃโฃ

Quitting a steady job and leaving family and friends behind might sound crazy to many, but to me it makes perfect sense.โฃโฃโฃ
To me traveling has become much more then just going on a holiday. It is my way of celebrating/appreciating life and mourn over the loved ones that Iโve lost. Getting to understand and respect different cultures is an amazing experience. It has taught me to be more patience, open minded and above all; more loving to towards life. โโฃโฃโฃ

This was the very next morning after arriving in the Atacama Desert. I remember arriving here and just stood around the lagoon for a long time admiring the colors and breath in the fresh air. โจโฃ

Have you ever imagined how Mars looks like?๐ฝ The moment we stepped out of the bus this was what we saw: a beautiful blue sky with endless red mountains and the moon. It was truly magnificent. โฃ

There are many volcanoes in the Atacama Desert and they even have their own legendary love story. Licancabur, the tallest volcano in Latin America, and his lover Quimal.โฃ๐
โฃ
The locals in Atacama belief that volcanoes are warriors and the mountains are maidens. Licancabur and Juriques who are believed to be two warrior princes (a smaller flat volcano), were both in love with, Quimal. But she already had her heart set on Licancabur. โฃ
โฃ
Blinded by jealousy Juriques forced Quimal to be with him. (What a douchebag!) When Licancabur found out what happened he went full on rage mode and beheaded his brother. Hence that the volcano shape of Juriques is flat. โฃ
โฃ
Lascar is the father of Licancabur and Juriques, he is known as hot-tempered aka the most active volcano of the Andes. (Also my favooooorite volcano because a few days later we climbed Lascar๐ all the way to the summit!)โฃ

Lascar decided to exile Quimal to a place in the middle of the desert on the other side of the salt flat.โฃ

Every year when the sun rises on the day of the winter solstice, you can see the shadow of Licancabur covering Quimalโs body completely. Like a gigantic hug. How romantic and sad. I might be wrong but I think the volcano in this picture is either Licancabur or Lascar. โฃ

The Atacama desert has become one of my favourite places in the world. The next posts will all be beautiful Atacama landscapes! ๐โฃ

At the end of the day we went to a night market and the next day we rode the San Bernardo cable car ๐ก and hiked our way back down. โฃ
