Itโ€™s been a moment, but weโ€™re still feeling the energy of ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’• ๐’๐’–๐’Š๐’…

With this second edition, we deepened a question at the heart of the festival: what happens when existing artworks are placed in everyday settings, spaces with their own social and commercial lives, where art could feel out of place? For four days, artworks and performances found their place across 17 locations in Charlois. Storefronts, a church, a sex shop, and other everyday spaces welcomed artworks and performances. The encounter between artwork and location created a story that could not exist anywhere else.

Seeing so many of you move from location to location, maps in hand, finding your own way through Charlois, was a true highlight for us.

None of this would have been possible without months of collaboration with artists, galleries, institutions, and neighbourhood locations. A huge thank you to all of you โ€” and to everyone who came to spend time in Charlois.

Stay close, as we will keep sharing memories from the festival in the upcoming weeks.

Daniel Laufer
The Architecture of Story
, 19:00

Rib is pleased to announce The Architecture of Story, a solo exhibition by Daniel Laufer (b. 1975, Hanover; lives in Berlin), 18 April โ€“ 7 June 2026.

The exhibition is curated by Kunsthalle Lingen and hosted by Rib, marking the first chapter of an institutional collaboration between the two organisations. Laufer's show at Rib runs simultaneously with his larger solo exhibition Time Fragments at Kunsthalle Lingen, which opens on 10 April and runs through 7 June. Together, the two presentations offer complementary perspectives on Laufer's practice across two very different spatial and institutional contexts.

The second stage of this collaboration will follow in 2027, when Rib curates a restaging of The Last Terminal: Reflections on the Coming Apocalypse at Kunsthalle Lingen, translating and extending the multi-year exhibition programme that unfolded at Rib between 2021 and 2025 across three volumes and fourteen chapters into a single group exhibition.

Daniel Laufer works across painting, film, installation, sculpture, and performance, constructing intermedial constellations from historical and contemporary filmic techniques, language, painting, and stage design. Having worked as a scenic painter before studying art, his installations carry a material specificity โ€” props, storyboards, and built environments are not incidental to the moving image but structurally inseparable from it. His films resist the logic of seamless narration; instead, they fracture temporal continuity, exposing the gaps, cuts, and silences through which storytelling reveals its own construction.

Find us between a dream world and a double-sided painting. We bring you the work of Nie Pastille and Philipp Schwalb in collaboration with JUBG, at ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’• ๐’๐’–๐’Š๐’…

Nie Pastilleโ€™s work begins with fragments of random gestures. It feels familiar, awakens memories, triggers moods, but remains open. Colors, shapes, bodies, structures - they open up worlds that cannot be explained, but felt. Like a walk-in dream world that is not always gentle. What holds the work together is affection and care โ€“ less a theme, more an inner force. It conveys a feeling of being safe and secure that is not tied to a place, but to closeness and connection.

What roles do pictures and images play in society? Philipp Schwalbโ€™s recent paintings are coins: two-sided (direct/complex) and activated by (ex)change. (2025) are a series of thirteen book-sized, double-sided, Delft-blue works. Each painting simultaneously, โ€œcoloristicallyโ€ and โ€œconstellationally,โ€ interweaves four narrations, using its own precise language, methods, and arguments to form one Bild. Each combines a storyline about cobalt with a book by Octavia Butler, a moment from the artistโ€™s family history, and the philosophy of painting. The cobalt narrative traces its history as a pigment in Delftware, addressing its socio-economic implications, its status as a raw material, its mining, its role in art history, its use in lithium batteries, and its functions in the human body.

Do clothes carry hidden meanings? Come and find out in the second edition of ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’• ๐’๐’–๐’Š๐’… In collaboration with gallery Gauli Zitter, we invite you to experience Jakob Bruggeโ€™s work first-hand.

Jakob Bruggeโ€™s practice deals with the symbolic potential of everyday objects, especially clothes. How does a baseball cap or a belt relate to lifestyle, ideology, or political affiliation? When and how does a specific shirt become a uniform, a sign of belonging, a behavior even?

(2025), these and other questions materialize in sculptures that deviate from mere found objects. Symbolic clothes are fabricated, encased, molded, cast, replicated, and transformed by the artist.

Gauli Zitter is an art gallery founded in 2023 by Piero Bisello and Philip Poppek. It shows Belgian and international artists in its location in Brussels and at international fairs.

A radiation warning and a staged time bomb. We collaborate with Etablissement dโ€™en face to present works by Raymond W. Barion and the duo Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys at ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’• ๐’๐’–๐’Š๐’…

(2025) is a brass replica of a Cobalt 60 sealed radioactive source. The original Cobalt 60 Column was developed at the Chalk River Laboratories in Ontario in the early 1950s. It was created to help study irradiation effects in biology and industrial contexts. The 'Drop and Run' words engraved in it are supposed to work as a warning, and yet by the time you pick up and start to read 'Drop', the radiation caused by Co60 would already have claimed your arm, finish 'and Run' and the dose of radiation would be lethal.

By the duo Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys, an (2025) will be on view. The small cardboard sculpture is an exact copy of a fake time bomb seen in an episode of the German television series Aktenzeichen XY... Ungelรถst.

Etablissement dโ€™en face is an art space in central Brussels. It aims to present artistic practices to an international audience by offering conditions of professional production to a wide spectrum of contemporary artists. Founded in 1991 by the artists Alec De Busschรจre, Delphine Bedel, Christophe Draeger and Patrick Everaert, it was originally located in the Rue dโ€™Artois and moved to the Rue Antoine Dansaert in 2002. Over the years, it has been programmed by various individuals.

Three DJs will accompany us: Barnt, Hendrik Meyer and Jens-Uwe Beyer.

Three figures from the heart of European techno and experimental club music. Between them, they carry decades of dancefloors across 40+ countries, releases on Kompakt, Berghain residencies, and a shared rootedness in Cologneโ€™s underground scene. Expect heavy, considered techno sets.

How much space does it take to travel? (2025), artist Sam Marshall Lockyer explores the physical space that travel vessels occupy. To be seen at ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’• ๐’๐’–๐’Š๐’… ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’‡๐’†๐’”๐’•: ๐‘ช๐’‚๐’“๐’๐’๐’‚ ๐‘ณ๐’๐’—๐’†๐’” ๐‘ช๐’‚๐’“๐’๐’๐’”, in collaboration with art gallery KIN.

The vacuums, handbags and suitcases in these paintings are made from stencils and outlines of the private containers that populate our domestic and travelling lives, recognizable vessels that do not reveal their contents. A reflection on the possibility of a painting as a physical register of material and space, an opaque container, simultaneously withholding and sharing information.

(2025) are made from fragments of fabric, like shirts, coats, rags and the textile from the London tube and bus seats. These fragments are molded around and take the shape of existing objects like buckets, kettles, cups and containers.

KIN is a gallery founded by Nicolaus Schafhausen in 2023 located in the heart of Brussels. With a focus on artistic positions that defies easy categorization, the program strives for an interdisciplinary approach. KIN stands for kinship and, as such, collaboration with others is part of the galleryโ€™s DNA. KIN is a platform for artistic exchange, it presents exhibitions, develops projects, and programs events.
