Recap of the European Masters Weightlifting Championships in Waregem, Belgium πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺπŸ‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

My preparation couldn’t have gone better. Week after week the weights kept increasing in steady steps and I went into this competition feeling confident.

Unfortunately the competition day didn’t go the way I had hoped. I’d spent weeks training for this moment, cut down to a lower weight class, and then… missed all three of my snatch attempts 😣

There’s no better way to put it: it just sucks!!!!

After my third miss, I walked back to the warmup area feeling incredibly frustrated. I loaded 68kg on the bar (because I know I can lift it) and of course I made it. So why? Why not on the competition platform? Sometimes weightlifting can be such a cruel and unforgiving sport.

But I picked myself up to do my clean & jerks anyway. I didn’t come all this way just to end my day after three missed snatches.

Although my 83 kg clean & jerk was turned down because of a press-out, that’s actually the lift I’m most proud of. It wasn’t pretty, but it was still a new postpartum PR and I’ll happily take that.

Now it’s back to the drawing board. What went wrong? What can I do differently next time? And what do I want and need to focus on over the next few months?

A huge thank you to everyone for all the love and support yesterday ❀️ both from those cheering me on at the venue and everyone watching the livestream from home ❀️

And an extra big thank you to bestie and for coaching me through the day while we were basically being roasted alive in the heat 🌑️🀣❀️
65KG voor een dubbeltje. Not verkeerd 😁πŸ’ͺ🏼 bw is going down and weights on the bar are going up

Holy quacamoly. My first European championship is a fact! 🀩πŸ₯³ This was the most AWESOME and at the same time scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. I want to share my adventure with you guys.

Monday 30-06 I flew to Albania. Like some of you might know I am a huge control freak who takes care of everything up until the smallest details. My mother should have brought us to Schiphol but due to a positive Corona test 1 hour before she couldn’t do that anymore. Accept and move on and Shane and I ordered a taxi. Due to the chaos on Schiphol and some running, we just made our flight in time.
We flew from Amsterdam to Vienna and from Vienna to Tirana. When we landed on Tirana Airport my suitcase was lost. Again I needed to accept the situation and gladly I could borrow some stuff from my Teammies and bought personal hygiene stuff in the supermarket. From the airport we went straight to the training hall for my last training before the competition. A bit stiff and tired but the training went well. I was explosive, fast and strong. Just did some light powers and finished with light front squats. I felt ready for the competition! The next day (the day before the competition) was a rest day. Some stretching and relaxing to charge my battery. The night before my competition my suitcase was found again in Vienna and I couldn’t be more happy! There is nothing better than your own personal stuff.

Snatch: 75kg (pressout in shoulder), 75kg (pressout in elbow), 75kg
Clean and Jerk: 88kg (pressout elbow), 88kg, 95kg
83kg pr snatch
100kg pr clean and jerk
62kg bodyweight

O M G what is happening at the moment!!!! Well, it will not have escaped you that my training progression is going really well πŸ“ˆ The word pr is almost on a weekly basis in my stories. All the variations in lifts and different exercises are done to get better at just 2 disciplines. The snatch and clean and jerk!

Yesterday I had a maxout session and I PR’d on both lifts and total. With a 83kg on the snatch and a 100kg in the clean and jerk. πŸ’― TRIPLE DIGITSSS! It’s such a mental victory that I couldn’t hold my emotions any longer and cried my eyes out #dramaqueen I worked so so hard for it! Let’s continue coming weeks with the same focus, discipline, hard work and I’m super curious what else i can achieve πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸš‚
