Sarmast was born from a need to transform lived experience, memory, and collective emotion into music. Led by composer and performer Reza Mirjalali, the project draws from Iranian Dastgah–Maqam and Radif traditions while embracing jazz, experimental music, and cross-cultural composition. Inspired by resilience, dignity, and the power of sound to carry untold stories, Sarmast connects tradition with contemporary expression. Formed as an international quartet, it unites diverse musical voices through compositions.
Its debut album Last Blue Sky reflects themes of memory, resistance, and hope, while the project continues to grow as a space for artistic dialogue and emotional honesty.
