One of my favourite finds in this pretty wild old Suffolk house of ours.

Follow along as we sensitively restore our mish-mash of a Tudor/Georgian country home and gardens

Pargetting. Traditional buildings. East Anglia. Building conservation. Tudor homes. Historic homes. Built heritage. Georgian house. Lime plaster. Limewash.
Finding the perfect original art with 💫

This beautiful, signed charcoal sketch is 'Feathered Hunter' by artist Paul Hardern 🦉

I have a thing for owls and for the real deal - original art that reveals the artist's process, the maker's marks, the love and care and time spent creating.
This old house is getting a new coat 🧥

The cement render and fibreglass insulation have caused parts of the timber frame to rot 😰 so they're off and will be replaced with more suitable, breathable, traditional building materials.

But how fascinating to see the bones underneath and what they tell us about the house over the centuries ✨️

Do you live in an old house? What era?

The most beautiful patinated brass light switches from and the most versatile joinery elements from

There was so little remaining of the original fabric of this building that it's practically a new build. So we had to work extra hard to add back in some period-style charm that felt both authentic and practical for country living.

Some tall skirtings, gorgeously tactile light switches, traditional architraves, shaker peg rails, a few vintage finds and a rusty red colour drench and we were pretty much there 🌟

Products:

• light switches - Westminster Collection toggle switches in vintage brass

• 324 pine skirting, Antique 2 MDF architrave, MDF plinth blocks and square MDF architraves (for the peg rails) - all from

The orangery / conservatory / garden room, whatever you want to call it. Built maybe 25 years ago and there's no way it would've survived another wet winter.

Orangery 2.0 will be built on the same footprint, same general shape, but with beautiful traditional joinery and timber mouldings, insulation, double glazing, heating and ventilation. And doors that actually open!

A year-round dining, lounging and bar space with access to the garden and the side drive.

It's giving Victorian greenhouse, and I have big plans for some little 🍋🍊 trees in here.

If the floorboards date from c1650, imagine what year the oak trees sprouted 🌱

I'm so enamoured with these old boards. Husband, who just wants as easy life...less so 😂

They need a lot of (gentle) cleaning up and some work to replace areas of rot etc, but they're going to be MAGIC.

Beginning to question my life choices 😑

Scraping gypsum skim, wallpaper and plastic paint off the original lime plaster walls in the family bathroom. Necessary but I definitely wouldn't recommend doing it for fun.

A little throwback and probably my favourite Rightmove vs Now in this house so far: my study/snooze/daydream room up in the eaves above what was the dairy in Victorian days.

This little nap spot was featured in At Home with Nature by and Own Your Zone by a couple years back - both very beautiful books if you're in need of a new one to cozy up with in these last (please? 🙏) days of winter.

What's your favourite sign of spring? Snowdrops? Birdsong? Not-cold toes?

Things have been a bit challenging health-wise and house-wise for a while now but I have some new spaces to share really soon 🫠

Another view of the sitting room and the inspiration behind the colour palette - the view of course. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
These brick walls were love at first sight so I decided to celebrate them and paint the window in the perfect earthy brick shade - Egyptian Red from the archive. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The garden border outside the window is the old formal rose bed, which ⁣I'd like to revive...even if it takes some years. I'm thinking lots of low maintenance hardy perennials with pretty blooms but as our last garden was the size of a postage stamp I don't even know where to start. Pulling out the brambles, probably. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This door leads to the drawing room (said in my best posh English accent obvs). And there's another to the right, painted the same shade, leading to the hall. You can walk the perimeter of the ground floor in a circle as all the rooms are connected, which I love. What can I say, I'm easily pleased. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I hope you're all having the best Sunday ⁣☀️⁣

Paint colours - Messel (door), Hoxton Grey (walls, ceilings + woodwork), Egyptian Red (window). All kindly gifted for this project by ⁣

Here she is, our Suffolk beauty! ⭐

Can't wait to get stuck in and show you more about our (many!) plans for the place. But first, I think I need to buy some wellies...
