The justice system acquitted Casey Anthony but the American people never absolved her.
Not every person deserves a redemption arc. Not every story deserves reinvention. Some names become warnings. Some acts permanently sever a person from public grace.
Caylee Anthony never got to grow up. Never got to become a teenager. Never got to roll her eyes at her mother or slam her bedroom door or fall in love or make mistakes or become anything at all.
Meanwhile the woman at the center of her death gets to launch a lifestyle platform on the internet like she’s just another writer with thoughts to share.
No.
Some doors should stay closed.

That should terrify people!
Authoritarianism does not arrive overnight with dramatic music and banners unfurling from the sky. It creeps. Slowly. Through exhaustion. Through normalization. Through billionaires desperate to stay close to power. Through media companies convincing themselves compliance is just “business “ and people insisting we are overreacting while the tower grows taller around us.
Stephen Colbert understood something J. R. R. Tolkien understood too: dark lords survive by convincing ordinary people they are inevitable. All-seeing. All-powerful. Too enormous to challenge. But mockery and humor break the spell.
Laughter reminds people that the “great and terrible” ruler is often just a fragile little man demanding worship because fear is the only thing holding his illusion together.
That is why authoritarians fear comedians so much!
To Stephen, his writers, his crew, and everyone who helped people laugh instead of drown these past several years: thank you. Truly. You helped people feel sane in profoundly insane times.
And to everyone else still paying attention: keep going.

The night is passing.
Now would be a good time to remind some of you that history does not repeat itself like a copy machine. It evolves, rebrands, and adapts itself into something people will tolerate long enough to normalize.
A swastika armband meant something. A white hood meant something, and increasingly, that red MAGA hat means something too. Not because every person wearing one is literally a Nazi or a Klansman, but because Nazis, white nationalists, fascists, and open racists keep finding themselves perfectly comfortable inside the movement.
That should alarm every decent person in this country!
Instead, people get angry at the comparison instead of interrogating why the comparison exists in the first place.
As a mother, I need people to understand this part: history is not happening somewhere else. It is not safely trapped inside black-and-white documentaries narrated by men with serious voices.
History is now. NOW.
One day our children are going to ask who saw the warning signs and told the truth anyway.
I would rather be accused of sounding “dramatic” than sit quietly while authoritarianism wraps itself in patriotism and calls itself greatness.

Honestly, motherhood in 2026 is just:
“Did your friend’s parents vote for him?”
“Did everyone brush their teeth?”
“Did democracy survive the day?”
“Is he still on this mortal coil?”
Anyway, this carousel was cheaper than therapy and less legally complicated than keying a Tesla.
Before I could find his favorite color m&m (yellow btw), I realized something ironic: people always say they never know what to get me because I “don’t like surprises.”
Meanwhile, the best thing that ever happened to me was one! My son was the surprise I never knew I needed. The child I didn’t plan for became the person who makes hard days softer and ordinary moments feel important by just being here.
So today, I wish a happy Mother’s Day to the mothers who make the plans when nobody else does, to the women carrying the emotional labor so quietly nobody notices how heavy it is, to the moms who still create magic for their children even when they themselves feel forgotten, and especially to the mothers who deserved more effort today than they received: I see you. I hope you still found a little joy anyway.
Not everything needs a gate, not everything needs a hierarchy, and care, of all things, should not require a permission slip.
Motherhood isn’t a title you defend online. It’s something you live. It’s the showing up, the carrying, the loving in ways that rearrange you.
If a post requires gatekeeping, it was never about honoring mothers but rather about controlling who gets to feel seen.
Don’t turn Mother’s Day into an eligibility test. Honor the ones you love and those who love and raised you.
It’s a declaration of war and womb.
It’s blood spilled, milk given, and protection that never flinches.
It means refusing to stay silent while your child asks why the bad men in masks are dragging the gardener into a truck.
It means calling out fascism between school pickups and bedtime stories.
It means telling the truth in a voice that shakes but refuses to shut up.
It means protecting the vulnerable even when you feel like you’re breaking.
It means rocking the cradle with one hand and flipping the system with the other.
Resist like a mother means showing up weeping, laughing, exhausted and still fighting like hell.
Because surrender is not an option when tiny eyes are watching your every move and tiny hands are reaching for a future they deserve to survive.
The women who came before us didn’t crawl through hell so we could lie down now.
When they come for your rights, you stand like a mother.
When they tell you to be polite, you roar like a mother.
When they want you silent, you speak louder. You post. You march. You shout. You grieve.
And if you have to?
You go full motherf*cking Karen and rage until they listen.
Don’t tell me you can’t.
