An Ordinary Sort of Evil is out in the world this week!!! ๐๐๐ This is book 5 in Kelley Armstrongโs A Rip Through Time series. Iโve raved about this series before and will continue to do so as long as Kelley keeps writing them!
My full review is coming soon but let me tell you it is absolutely worth it to read the first 4 books first. A Rip Through Time is exactly what it sounds like - a modern-day detective Mallory accidentally ends up in a body of a house maid in Victorian Day Scotland. She ends up assisting her undertaker boss, Dr Duncan Gray in unraveling a murder mystery in each book. Of course there is a slow burn romance as well!!! In this installment the story revolves around a seance (all the rage at that time) and a missing maid who might be dead or alive. Of course there is a slow burn romance as well!!!
I love the blend of genres in these books and Iโve grown quite attached to the characters as well, both the mains ones and supporting ones. The stories also always make me question my ability to survive if I was ever taken back in time!

My plan was to post this on Motherโs Day but a fun filled family day got away from me. Three generations of women, fractured mother daughter relationships, and some Malibu surfing. Definitely my kind of book.
Iโve known since first reading One Italian Summer, that Rebeccaโs writing and her stories with a touch of magic were most definitely for me. Though thereโs a bit of romance in them (and usually a beautiful setting), these primarily stories about choices. One of my favorite things is that โwhat ifsโ from her books tend to spill over into my โreal lifeโ and make for some fun discussions.
Women in Novak family get one magical ticket that allows them to return to a certain point in past and have a do over. Laurenโs mom Marcella used her ticket to reverse a deadly car accident and save Laurenโs father. Not having a ticket anymore changes Marcella and her relationship with her daughter. When Lauren finds herself again staying in her childhood home, past and present collide in unexpected ways.
I flew through this one. Though I couldnโt relate to Laurenโs and Marcellaโs relationship (thanks mom ๐) or Marcellaโs relationship with her mom Sylvia, I still felt immersed in the story and wanted to know more about each of them. This ticket felt like both a blessing and a curse (kind of like winning lottery) and I was fascinated by the way it affected how each one of the women lived her life.
This was an interesting and quick read, the kind you want to save when you just want to escape the world. Expiration Dates is still my fav, but without a doubt Iโll read whatever else Rebecca Serle writes. Thank you for my ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Love is in the air! Or maybe itโs my allergies ๐ค๐ Either way this book combines two of my favorite topics - love & psychotherapy (I love how my phone kept trying to change this into โpsychopathsโ). This was such a quick, enjoyable read! Itโs not a textbook, itโs not meant to be a โhow to guideโ. Itโs a collection of stories about patients Stephen Grosz encountered in his practice, who were struggling to connect, to understand, to allow themselves to be loved.
Stephen Grosz practices psychoanalysis, which is not my chosen type of therapy (I started in the field and prefer CBT, DBT & EFT) but I still appreciated the way Stephen shared these stories with us. He reflected not only on the patientโs journey but also his own, in the role of a therapist at different points in his career. Iโve spent a lot of time in doctorsโ waiting rooms over the past few months and this was such a good reading companion because I would get so immersed in the stories that time just flew.

There are many great things about being a part of but getting an early access to some of my favorite authors probably tops the list for me! Especially as words โDavid Ellisโ cause a Pavlovian salivation effect in this reader. I donโt even need to read its synopsis to know itโs going to be auto-read for me.
So let me give you the gist of my Keep Them Close review in one sentence. I started reading the first chapter just to get a taste for the story and next thing I know, I look up, my tea is stone cold and Iโm half way through the book! ๐ฑ Thatโs it, end of review! ๐
This is a not-so-conventional police procedural wrapped in a thriller wrapped in a cat and mouse game. I wholeheartedly believe that in order to write such intricate brilliant plots, author themselves has to have a brilliant mind. And with each new David Ellis book that belief is reinforced.
Two siblings. One murder. And many many lies. I must admit I was mildly obsessed and plenty amused by Lukeโs (brother in the sibling duo) narration/inner monologue. My ADHD brain and fascination with correct word definitions aligned so closely with the way his mind kept jumping around that I ended up chuckling to myself a couple of times.
Iโm purposely avoiding getting any more specific when it comes to plot. But if my enthusiasm hasnโt sold you on grabbing this one as soon as itโs available this summer, let my trusty reading side kick ๐โโฌ Thor lure you in with his cuteness.

About the book
