😏 I flew to Los Angeles with my art portfolio to meet a famous female muralist.
It was a very important meeting. I was nervous, hopeful, ready. I was also starting late, raising my familia, doubting myself.
She looked at my work and told me to find another job. That I wasn’t going to make it. 💔 😭
Little did she know. 🙏🏽
My mural now hangs at the in Washington, DC. National Geographic printed my work in 11th grade American History textbooks across this country. 📚🇺🇸
So… I mailed her a copy. 📦😏
My only regret? Not believing in myself sooner. But I was raising my familia and that was never a mistake. 💛
To every late bloomer. Every mama. Every artist who was ever told NO —
Start late. Start anyway. 🌱🇲🇽

🪁 I came back from Nogales llena de energía!
Brandon and I just spent 3 days at the Nogales International Film Festival watching incredible films, meeting brilliant artists, and screening The Magic Kite on el muro. 🎬
Here’s what I learned and what I want every filmmaker and storyteller to hear:
✨ Watch other filmmakers’ work.
✨ Go to festivals. See indie films.
✨ Study how others tell powerful stories in less than 10 minutes - it challenges your creative brain. 🧠
You cannot grow in a bubble. 🙏🏽
Brandon and I are already dreaming up our next project together. That’s what good art does 🤓 it makes you want to make more.
Don’t stop dreaming, mi gente. 🇲🇽🪁

No English. No map. Just hope.
And THIS WEEK I am going back to the same border.
Not to cross it.
But to screen my film The Magic Kite on el muro. 🪁
A story of our Latinx community in Charlotte.
Glowing on the very wall that so many of us know too well.

Every interruption pulls me out of that sacred space where the brush, the heart, and the canvas are all moving as one.
But here’s the truth I’ve learned:
We don’t get to live without interruptions. We just learn to dance with them. 💃
Because life keeps happening while we’re trying to create. And maybe that’s the whole point. The interruptions ARE the life. The painting just holds the proof that we kept going anyway. 💛
So if today your focus got cut a hundred times — I see you. 🌟
We rise. We breathe. We pick it back up. ✨

Broke a tooth last week. Saw my dentist this morning. And let’s just say… some other things have been breaking lately too. 🦷💔
But here’s what I know after all these years as an artist and ARTivist: 💩 happens. And we still get up. We still show up. We still pick up the brush.
So today I walked into my studio and I thanked the things that never let me down 🥰 my brushes, my paint, and the painting that’s been patiently waiting for me to come back. 🙏🏾🖌️🎨
Ay, hay que seguirle adelante!
(Gotta keep going.)
To anyone having a rough Monday - this one’s for you. We rise. 💛✨

I grew up in Mexico City believing in and honoring La Virgen de Guadalupe - an iconic symbol of Mexican identity, resilience, and protection.
In 2016, I created my own version of her, holding an AK-15 made out of cardboard. At that moment, I felt that faith alone was not enough. We needed courage, resistance, and collective strength to fight back against ICE, racism, and the discrimination faced by people of color.
Today, I celebrate La Virgencita with mucho amor - as a symbol of protection, dignity, and the power of our people to stand strong.
