🌊 What an incredible weekend for Reef Sisters 💙🤿

Our first Freediving Course was about so much more than learning to dive deeper. It was about building confidence, creating a safe and supportive community, and empowering women on the water.

Safety has always been a core value of Reef Sisters — because having the skills, knowledge and the right people around you matters.

A huge congratulations to the 8 amazing women who officially became qualified freedivers 🙌✨ We’re so proud of you all.

This is only the beginning 💙🌊

Massive thanks to for making this all happen
One of the West Kimberley’s most iconic fishing events 🎣

The Buccaneer Classic sees fishers heading deep into some of WA’s most remote and spectacular waters and it’s those same fishers who can play a vital role in protecting them.

We teamed up with the in Derby to show how easy it is to report suspicious activity through the Recfishwest app.

If you’re out there and something doesn’t look right - report it. Together, we can help protect our northern waters.

How awesome is this new all-abilities fishing platform in the heart of Mandurah! 😍

Located under the new Estuary Bypass Bridge, this platform is already seeing some great captures of whiting, herring, tarwhine, crabs and much more for people of all ages and abilities.

Recfishwest believes every coastal town should have a fishing platform like this one and we applaud our partners along with the and the State Government for helping deliver another top fishing spot in an area that lives and breathes fishing 🎣

🦀 Last chance to have your say on crab rule changes.

DPIRD’s public consultation on proposed blue swimmer crab changes closes next Wednesday.

The proposals include:
• A 10 crab bag limit across the West Coast
• Pushing the season start to 1 January (north of Minninup)

Where we stand right now:
✔️ Support the 10-crab bag limit
❌ Don’t support delaying the whole season

Instead, we’ve proposed a smarter option: Delay scoop netting in the Peel-Harvey until Boxing Day, protecting undersize crabs while keeping December crabbing opportunities open.

We’ve put our current thinking up on the website, have a look by clicking on the link in our bio ☝ but this isn't locked in.

We want to hear what crabbers think before the deadline. Jump in, have a read and share your views below and make sure you take 's survey.

Big win for Albany fishers 🙌

A new artificial reef is on the way for King George Sound, less than 7km from Emu Point, delivering more fishing opportunities in safe, sheltered waters.

Even better, it’s been shaped by local fishers, for local fishers 🎣

To be installed with purpose-designed modules in early 2027, the reef will create new habitat and boost fish numbers, meaning more chances to target species like skippy, Samsonfish and pink snapper as it comes to life.

“This is exactly what great fishing projects should look like, shaped by the community and delivering real benefits for local fishers,” said Recfishwest Programs Manager James Florisson.

Funded by the Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund, it’s a strong partnership between Recfishwest, the Albany community, and the and another step in building the future of fishing in WA.

🎣 Follow the salmon on the beach for better and safer fishing this Easter.

South Coast gun fisher Chris Dixon from reckons there’s no better way to enjoy the iconic salmon run than with sand between your toes.

“Beaches are just a more enjoyable way to fish for salmon, you’ll catch more fish with less hassle and it’s a whole lot safer,” Chris says.

With salmon already firing up, now’s the time to hit WA’s world-class beaches - spot the schools, cast lures or fish the gutters. Simple, fun and perfect for the whole family.

⚠️ If you still choose to fish from the rocks – make sure you:
• Check weather, swell and tides before you go.
• Look out for hazardous fishing alerts.
• Never fish alone and tell someone your plans.
• Wear appropriate footwear and a lifejacket.
• If in doubt, stick to the beach.

No fish is worth risking your life for.

Good to see the 's decision to walk back banning community access at Mindarie Marina boardwalk – a popular local fishing spot 🎣

They listened to their community who gave strong feedback and it’s a good example of a common sense approach when other local authorities are trying to ban fishing in their areas.

Places like Mindarie Marina are incredibly valuable because they provide safe, accessible fishing opportunities for families, kids and people who might not otherwise be able to get out on the water.

Once access like this is lost, it’s very difficult to get back, so it’s great to see the City of Wanneroo take a balanced approach rather than closing it unnecessarily 👏 we urge other local councils to take note!
