The fireplace is something I’m always asked about, and it was one of the features I was most particular about from the very beginning. I knew exactly what I wanted, so I searched far and wide to find the right pieces — and I’m so glad I did, because I still love it just as much as the day it was installed.
I was set on achieving a natural country cottage feel. I knew straight away that I didn’t want a black marble hearth, even though everywhere I went that seemed to be all that was available, and I was repeatedly told it was the only suitable option. I stuck to my guns and eventually found the most beautiful stone hearth in Dungannon, along with the stone insert in Donegal.
I wanted the surround to be simple and white, and I think it really lets the stone speak for itself. The addition of the small spotlights finishes it perfectly and adds so much atmosphere. I also knew I didn’t want a black stove, so when I came across the grey enamel stove in Markethill, I was absolutely thrilled — it tied in beautifully with the natural stone.

There’s still lots to be done — the dressing room and master bedroom is the biggest projects, so they’re on pause for now while I figure out lighting, curtains, furniture etc for everywhere else… and don’t even get me started on landscaping!!
