5 minutes from tsukiji market there’s a hidden ryotei (the most traditional kind of japanese restaurant) called tsukiji jisaku, and honestly it doesn’t feel like tokyo at all 🤯
The entire entrance is an immersive digital art installation called SUMIIIKE 澄池 — a digital koi pond you walk straight through. Then you take your shoes off, get your own private room overlooking a real japanese garden, and a kaiseki course where every single dish is seasonal and plated like art.
The house itself was built in 1898 as a villa for the family that founded mitsubishi. it’s been a ryotei since 1931, 95 years of the same tradition.

I came for a solo trip and ended up having one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a while, no crowds, just good energy and the most wonderful people everywhere I went 🫶
Hotel Granvia Okayama was my base and I cannot recommend it enough. Directly connected to Okayama Station (easiest check-in ever), and the room views at night? I felt like I was in Gossip Girl, no joke ✨ The staff were so warm and the whole place just felt so taken care of.
And the location is actually unreal, Hiroshima is only 36 min away by Shinkansen, Osaka just 45 min, and Kyoto about 1 hour. All without the crazy crowds 🙌
Skip the tourist rush, Setouchi is where it’s at ✨
