Today I’m 8 months post-op from my tummy tuck and breast lift with Dr. Martin Jugenburg.

The scars on my abdomen and under my breasts continue to soften, and every month things settle a little bit more. The scar tissue under my left breast (the T-junction there took longer to heal) continues to soften as I apply scar gel and massage it daily.

One thing I didn’t realize is how long the scars would be red. But I now know that redness is part of the healing process because there’s still increased blood flow and collagen remodeling happening under the skin. Over time, my scars will continue to fade, flatten, and lighten. Healing is not linear and it definitely requires patience. (And I have a minor scar revision being done in July on either side of my hips to address small “dog ears”. This will be done under local anaesthetic.)

I still have some abdominal swelling, which is a normal part of the healing process and will hopefully continue to improve over the next few months. What I’ve learned is that a tummy tuck, especially when muscle repair is also done, disrupts the lymphatic system that drains fluid. The drainage pathways have to regenerate to restore normal fluid circulation. What’s fascinating is how, when I go for lymphatic drainage massage (which I’m doing regularly), you can see the difference before and after. Of course, the changes I see make sense because the fluid that causes the swelling is moved around to the lymph nodes in my armpits and in my groin.

What’s interesting is how quickly we expect our bodies to bounce back, while forgetting that healing from major surgery takes time. This whole experience has reminded me that our bodies deserve more grace than we usually give them.

Even with the continued healing, I love the results from my surgery and am so glad I took the giant leap to get it done.

Why did I have the surgery? After dropping 55lbs, I was left with loose skin that no amount of diet and exercise can change. While I could have just let it be, I decided to get the surgery done as I am now 55 and have the rest of my life to enjoy the physique I have worked so hard to build over the last 4+ years.
I had the privilege of being invited to the annual conference to present my research on safety in plastic surgery and to moderate the Sunday scientific panel.

Connecting with colleagues from around the world, sharing knowledge, and learning from one another is how we continue to elevate our field and improve patient care. I was honored to share my findings and experience on enhancing patient safety, while also gaining valuable insights from other surgeons on refining surgical techniques to achieve even better outcomes.

It was an incredibly productive and inspiring weekend, and I’m excited to return to Toronto and bring this new knowledge and perspective back to my practice.
One Year Out: Integrated Facial Rejuvenation

At one year post-op, this patient demonstrates the combined effect of carefully planned upper and lower blepharoplasty [surgery to remove excess skin from the eyelids], facelift, and neck lift. The procedures were designed to work together—addressing tired appearance in the eye area while restoring definition to the jawline and neck contour that naturally changes with time.

The goal of this approach is to create results that feel harmonious across the entire face and neck. Rather than altering one feature in isolation, integrated planning ensures that improvements in one area complement changes in another, allowing the face to age in place rather than appear abruptly transformed.

At the one-year mark, healing is complete and final contours are fully evident. Most patients experience continued subtle softening and settling of tissues over the following months, so this represents a stable endpoint for assessment.

Recovery from combined procedures typically spans six to twelve weeks for most daily activities, with full resolution of swelling and bruising taking longer. Individual healing varies based on skin quality, age, and post-operative care.

Outcomes or results shown are not guaranteed and may vary from patient to patient. Cosmetic procedures are associated with possible risks and complications; you should have a thorough discussion with your surgeon or their representatives. This image is shared with patient consent.
Facelift, Necklift & Upper Blepharoplasty | 62 years young | 15 months post-op
A natural transformation is one where you still look like yourself, just refreshed, rested, and more in line with how you feel on the inside.
This side profile tells the story beautifully. Notice the redefined jawline, the clean angle between the chin and neck, and the lift through the upper eyelids that opens up her eyes without changing their shape or character. There is no pulled look, no operated appearance. Just a quieter, more youthful version of the same woman.
A well-executed facelift and necklift is not about chasing a different face. It is about restoring the architecture that time and gravity have softened. When combined with an upper blepharoplasty, the eyes regain their brightness and the whole face comes back into balance.
If you are considering facial rejuvenation, look closely at long-term results like this one. Fifteen months out is when you see the true outcome, after the healing is complete and the tissues have settled into their new position.

62 years old. 15 months post-op. Facelift + necklift + upper blepharoplasty.

When these three procedures work together, the transformation extends beyond any single area. The neck gets its youthfulness back. The jawline redefines. The eyes brighten. Notice how the overall balance shifts, not overdone, just restored.

At the Royal College of Surgeons of England 🇬🇧, a truly historic stage for medicine, I have the privilege of speaking at the British Aesthetic Meeting on safety in cosmetic plastic surgery.

Thank you to Dr Omar Tillo for the kind invitation and the opportunity to share my experience, while learning from outstanding colleagues from around the world.

An honour to contribute to this important global conversation on surgical safety and excellence.
This procedure is not for everybody! This patient wanted to have liposuction only, understanding that she would be left with loose wrinkly skin as a result of the large volume liposuction that she would undergo. She preferred not having the scars of a bra line lift.
She’s excited with her results because she can finally wear clothing that she could not in the past. At her age, she’s not interested in wearing a bikini and the loose skin and irregularities do not bother her. Again, this is not a procedure for everybody, and a young woman wanting to look slim and fit and run around on a beach in a bikini would not be happy with this result. Patient selection and patient expectations are crucial in obtaining a successful result.
