I know Iโm late to the party on this one, but I just finished Atmosphere and I am not okay.
Taylor Jenkins Reid is an absolute genius. This book had everything I love in a story: suspense, friendship, romance, found family, ambition, heartbreak, and hopeโall wrapped up in the fascinating backdrop of NASAโs 1980s space shuttle program.
I listened to the audiobook, and it was absolutely top-notch. The narration brought the characters and emotions to life in such a powerful way that I couldnโt stop listening. In fact, I finished this book in under 24 hours because I was completely hooked from start to finish.
Joanโs journey captivated me from the very beginning. Watching her chase a dream that once felt impossible while navigating love, friendship, and her place in the universe was both inspiring and emotional. The relationships in this book are what truly made it shine. Every character felt real, flawed, and unforgettable, and the bonds they formed had me completely invested.
The pacing was perfect. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, Reid would pull me in even deeper. The suspense surrounding the missions kept me glued to the pages, while the emotional moments hit with incredible force.
And that ending... wow. Have tissues handy. Seriously.
What I loved most is how Atmosphere manages to feel both enormous and intimate at the same time. Itโs a story about space exploration, but itโs also a story about love, courage, sacrifice, and the people who become our family along the way.
This book broke my heart, put it back together, and then left me staring at the ceiling thinking about it long after I turned the final page. Easily one of my favorite reads of the year and a reminder of why I should never doubt

I also really enjoyed the contrast between the gritty 1849 story and the glamorous 1929 Hollywood setting. The fake romance plotline was fun, and I loved seeing how both worlds connected as the story unfolded. Meyer does such a great job balancing romance, suspense, history, and the emotional weight of Allyโs impossible choice.
I especially enjoyed the twist toward the end โ I definitely didnโt see it coming. And after finishing this one, I canโt wait for the next installment in the series.

As tragedy strikes her family, she reaches out to her friendsโCharlotte and Abigailโin a last attempt to find a path forward, possibly even escape.
The paths of these three women cross in unexpected ways in public, in private, and through letters. They forge a quiet sisterhood across borders and upheaval, each one facing love and loss, sweetness and strife, revolution and regrets.
QOTD: What is your favorite time period to read about or what time period would you like to read more about?
I put off reading this book for a long time because of the subject matter. I wasnโt sure I wanted to read something centered around a mass shooting, but that event actually happens before the story begins and focuses more on how it impacts Coltonโs life afterward.
I ended up absolutely loving this book. I was completely invested in Coltonโs journey as he tries to rebuild his life, career, and relationships after everything falls apart. His story felt emotional, honest, and hopeful in a really grounded way.
My only regret is waiting so long to pick it up. A beautiful story about second chances, healing, and finding your way back to yourself. Plus, the audio was fantastic. Definitely a 5-star read for me.

I went into A Fortune of Sand with high expectations, especially as a longtime fan of Ruta Sepetysโs previous work, and while it had some intriguing elements, it didnโt fully work for me.
The setting is easily one of the bookโs strongest aspects. The smoky, glittering backdrop of 1927 Detroit is vividly drawn, and thereโs a strong atmospheric, almost Gatsby-esque quality that pulls you in early on. Marjorie is also an interesting protagonistโher creativity and quiet defiance make her easy to root for, even when the story around her starts to feel uneven.
That said, the novel takes a very different direction from Sepetysโs earlier books. It leans more into mystery and gothic suspense. There are hints at a deeply disturbing historical subject, but it never feels fully explored, which was disappointing given how impactful it could have been.
The pacing is another issue. The tension builds nicely in the middle, with eerie details about the program and its benefactor, but the payoff doesnโt quite deliver. The ending, in particular, felt abrupt and unsatisfyingโalmost as if the story simply stopped rather than concluded.
Overall, this was an atmospheric read with a compelling premise, but it left too many threads unresolved for me. Worth picking up if you enjoy moody & mysterious fiction, but donโt expect the same emotional depth or closure as Sepetysโs earlier works.

Iโd give this one a solid 4 stars. While the subject matter is undeniably brutal, I found myself completely absorbed in the story and appreciated the chance to learn more about the final days of the gladiator games through the perspectives of three compelling characters. Watching Adel, Felix, and Telemachus navigate such a violent and morally complex world added real depth and tension to the narrative.
It does start a bit slow, but once the story finds its footing, it really takes offโI reached a point where I couldnโt put it down. The mix of historical detail, emotional stakes, and quiet resilience made it a memorable read. Adelโs journey in particular stood out, balancing strength and vulnerability in a way that felt authentic.
This was my first book by, but it definitely wonโt be my last. Thank you so much for the gifted copy.
