Confesso, na hora que recebi essa pergunta, eu fiquei meio desconcertado. Embora estivesse certo de que casar era uma ótima decisão, eu não tinha uma resposta pronta para dar a esse meu amigo, pois para mim sempre foi óbvio que o casamento é algo sagrado e necessário para a maioria das pessoas que busca viver uma vida madura.
Pois é, acontece que hoje em dia precisamos apontar que a grama é verde. Não basta se apoiar no bom senso, porque as pessoas o perderam de vista.
Por isso, que tal saber o que a psicologia fala sobre coabitação (amancebar)?
"Muitos adultos emergentes acreditam que morar junto é uma forma inteligente de 'experimentar o casamento', um jeito de ter certeza de que existe compatibilidade antes de tentar se amarrar e, com isso, reduzir as chances do divórcio. Contudo, as pesquisas mostram o contrário. […] Em uma metanálise, um grupo de pesquisadores examinou o resultado de 26 estudos científicos das consequências da coabitação para a estabilidade e qualidade do casamento subsequente e demonstrou que aqueles que tinham morado juntos antes de se casar tinham mais chances de se divorciar (Jose et al., 2010). Outro estudo analisou os efeitos do namoro, da coabitação e do casamento na felicidade, avaliados pelas respostas dos participantes para quatro perguntas (pontuadas em uma escala de 1 a 7) sobre o quão 'ideal', 'excelente', 'satisfatória' e 'completa' era a vida deles (Soons et al., 2009). No início de qualquer relacionamento romântico – namoro, coabitação ou casamento – a felicidade de todos os quatro indicadores aumentava; no final deles diminuía. Comparada à coabitação, a felicidade de casais casados aumentava mais no início e diminuía mais na separação.
