Hair loss is often blamed on age, genetics, or bad luck. But for many women, the story starts much deeper.

Your hair follicles are incredibly sensitive to what’s happening inside the body. When thyroid function slows, stress hormones stay elevated, ovulation becomes irregular, or progesterone levels decline, hair growth can begin to suffer.

Some of the most common hormonal patterns associated with thinning hair include:

• Low thyroid function
• Chronic stress and elevated cortisol
• Low progesterone levels
• Estrogen dominance (high estrogen relative to progesterone)
• Blood sugar instability and poor metabolic health

Hair is often a reflection of the body’s overall health. Supporting thyroid function, nourishing your metabolism, prioritizing sleep, reducing stress, and restoring hormonal balance may help create a healthier environment for hair growth over time.

Because hair grows slowly, improvements rarely happen overnight, but addressing the root cause is often more powerful than chasing endless shampoos, serums, and quick fixes.

PCOS is finally being recognized as something much bigger than an ovarian condition. For years, women were told they simply had “cysts” or irregular periods while the deeper hormonal and metabolic dysfunction driving the condition was overlooked.

PCOS is strongly associated with elevated estrogen, low progesterone, insulin resistance, high cortisol, and impaired thyroid function. Estrogen itself can stimulate androgen production, which is why symptoms like facial hair, acne, scalp hair loss, and weight gain so often appear together. And when progesterone is low, there’s less balance against estrogen’s effects on tissues, fluid retention, inflammation, and metabolism.

Stress plays a massive role too. Chronically elevated cortisol can impair thyroid function, worsen insulin resistance, disrupt ovulation, and push the body further into the same cycle many women with PCOS know too well. The ovaries are often where the symptoms show up, but they are rarely the entire story.

Women deserve better than being told to just go on medications that can also come with side effects, without anyone asking why the body is struggling in the first place. At Raena, our coaches help women build routines focused on supporting hormones at a real root-cause level.
Hormones shape so much more than periods or hot flashes. They shape the way we experience the people around us.

When progesterone levels drop, many women notice they feel more anxious, reactive, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted.

And there’s science behind it. Progesterone converts into allopregnanolone, a neurosteroid that supports GABA, the brain’s calming pathway associated with relaxation, emotional stability, and resilience to stress.

Research has even linked healthy progesterone levels to greater empathy, emotional responsiveness, and prosocial behavior. At the same time, emotional closeness itself appears to support progesterone production — showing just how connected our biology and relationships really are.

Hormones don’t just affect the body. They affect connection, communication, intimacy, and how safe we feel in the world around us. 🤍

PCOS is now being renamed PMOS as Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

And honestly, the name change makes sense.

For years, the condition was framed as if the ovaries themselves were the primary problem. But women with PCOS rarely struggle with only ovarian symptoms. They often experience blood sugar issues, fatigue, weight gain, fluid retention, hair changes, anxiety, sleep problems, and chronic stress physiology all at once.

The new name acknowledges what many women have felt for years:
this is not just a gynecological condition. It’s a whole-body metabolic and endocrine pattern.
But while the terminology is evolving, the crux of the issue hasn’t really changed.

Many women with PCOS/PMOS still present with:
• insulin resistance
• elevated cortisol
• androgen excess
• disrupted ovulation
• progesterone deficiency
• thyroid dysfunction
• estrogen dominance

The ovaries are often where the symptoms become visible, but the dysfunction extends far beyond them.

This is why simply focusing on the ovaries alone often misses the bigger picture. Hormones are deeply interconnected. Stress hormones influence blood sugar. Thyroid function influences reproductive hormones. Metabolism influences everything.

PMOS may be a more accurate name because it recognizes the endocrine and metabolic nature of the condition rather than isolating it to the ovaries alone.
The name changed, but the physiology largely didn’t.
Health isn’t just one thing. It’s everything you choose, every single day. What you eat, how you sleep, what you put on your skin, what you put in your body.

At Raena and Araza, we believe women deserve the best! That means cleaner inputs, smarter solutions, and care that truly supports real health. Because the details aren’t small, they’re everything.

Progesterone is often called the “calming hormone”… so why do some women feel worse before they feel better? 🤍

Sometimes it’s not the progesterone itself, it’s what’s happening underneath the surface.
Things like:
• High estrogen levels
• Blood sugar instability
• Poor metabolism or slow hormone clearance
• Chronic stress + nervous system sensitivity
• Gut issues & endotoxin load
• The wrong dose or delivery method
…can all change the way your body responds to progesterone.

A poor response is often feedback — not failure.
Your body may need more support with nourishment, stress, metabolism, liver health, or finding the right form + dose for you.

Hormones don’t work in isolation. They work in the context of your entire body. ✨
Most people think thyroid issues show up as fatigue, weight gain, or feeling cold all the time. And they do. But one of the earliest signs is far more subtle. It’s right on your face.

Thinning of the outer third of the eyebrow is one of the most overlooked indicators of low thyroid function. It’s called the Hertoghe sign, and it has been recognized in medicine for over a century. Even classical paintings have captured it before modern lab testing ever existed.

Why does this happen? Hair growth is one of the most energy-dependent processes in the body. Every hair follicle needs a constant supply of energy to stay in its growth phase. Thyroid hormone is what drives that energy. It increases cellular respiration, oxygen use, and metabolic activity at the level of the follicle.

When thyroid function slows down, energy production drops and the body starts conserving. Hair follicles are one of the first places this shows up. They shift out of the growth phase, regrowth slows, and over time, hair begins to thin.

The outer portion of the eyebrow is especially sensitive. It has a shorter growth cycle, a more fragile blood supply, and responds quickly to metabolic stress. That’s why it’s often one of the first visible signs.

Your body is always communicating. And in this case, it might be as simple as your eyebrows.
