Really enjoying the process of creating that soft fluffy fur.
The majority of my commissions have always been dogs so I never really got much practice with cats! The first few I did I found really quite difficult because the fur texture is totally different ( atleast I feel like it is) 🤣 so it required a lot of learning curves and practicing different techniques.
My top tip for creating soft, fluffy fur: blunt pencils! I only use sharp pencils for the details!

Pricing your work is probably one of the biggest challenges creatives face!
It can feel like you are putting a value on yourself.
You may worry people won’t buy if it’s priced too high or you are “overcharging”
But at the same time, you don’t want to undervalue yourself.
Here is how I increased my prices 10x
It was scary at first! ( and still is every time I do it!) I thought I was going to lose all my customers ( although at the start, there were not many!)
But, what I found was that, I actually gained new ones. And more of them.
I have far more customers now and my art is 10x the price it was.
Yes the quality of my work has improved considerably over that period of time, but that is why I raise my prices.
I raised them by about 20% every time I have a full commission book of 3 months or more.
Raising them by a small amount each time feels a lot less Intimidating and very often, people are more than understanding! Especially if you have done work for them before and they are happy with your service ( like I said, it is all about the value you provide) they are usually totally fine with paying a little more ❤️
Oh and one more thing. You don’t owe affordability.
If someone walked into a high end clothing brand and asked them to significantly drop their price so they could buy something. Would they do it? Ofcourse not. So stop lowering your prices or discounting your work. That is when you truly undervalue yourself and If someone asks you to do that, they don’t value your work either.

The creative process is full of ups and downs.
Social media tends to put of a bit of rose coloured tint to everything and make it seem like it’s all smooth sailing. Like you try something a few times and you are supposed to be incredible at it, then when you aren’t ( because nobody is) it’s disheartening and you feel like you will never be good enough.
Here is the reality.
The creative process is not ninety percent amazing results and ten percent mistakes.
The creative process is ninety percent messing up, figuring things out, self doubt and a bit of frustration thrown in there. But, that ten percent is where the magic happens 💫
It’s during those ten percent times that you have breakthrough moments, realize you can do it, figure out what works, and refine your skills.
Gradually, that ratio starts to shift, you have more of those ten percent moments and less of the ninety percent. It will never be perfect ( we are only human after all!) but it will start to balance out and that that is where confidence starts to build ❤️
Be patient with yourself, enjoy the process and know that you are absolutely good enough!! 💫❤️

Building a creative business is a constantly evolving process.
Trying to define yourself too early or boxing yourself in, takes away that evolutionary process. Allow yourself to explore new ideas and pay attention to which ones feel inspiring and light you up! ❤️ Most likely, that is the path that best fits you.

I didn’t go to art school.
I walked out of my college art classes because I was told my art was too detailed 🤦♀️
I have failed and messed up hundreds of times.
But I am grateful for all the times my work didn’t go right.
It allowed me to figure out what works and practice that.
Confidence in your craft comes from constant and persistent practice. Keep going and don’t forget to look back now and then to see where you started from. You will surprise yourself! ❤️❤️❤️
