This one is for all of the scared groomers out there. Growth in grooming almost always lives on the other side of discomfort.

This industry asks people to be brave constantly. Brave enough to try a new pattern. Brave enough to compete for the first time. Brave enough to ask questions instead of pretending to know everything. Brave enough to take criticism, keep learning, and continue showing up.

A lot of groomers think confidence comes first. In reality, confidence is usually built after repeating scary things enough times to prove to yourself that growth is possible.

The groomers who improve the most are rarely the ones who never feel fear. They are the ones who decide their goals matter more than temporary discomfort.

So far, this is just about the only part of Aurelia’s groom that I actually feel confident doing with no guidance, but I’m really excited to master this trim and I could not have asked for a better dog to learn on! Stay tuned for lots more bouvier content.

For those wondering, I’m using the Bravura 2 which has quickly become my new favorite 5 in 1 clipper (and Reely’s too 🐊).
Even posting this reel feels scary for me! I don’t love sharing work when I feel like I didn’t totally nail it (and I definitely don’t feel like I nailed this pet bichon trim). If you haven’t seen me post lately, it’s because I’ve convinced myself that my content has to be perfect in order to share. But I’m really trying to push myself every day not to retreat into my comfort zone.

Putting yourself out there, whether it’s learning a new skill, trying a different haircut, taking on a new client, or posting an imperfect groom (I tried my best!), requires a good bit of bravery. It’s really vulnerable.

Earlier in my grooming journey, I wish I had heard more people I looked up to talk about how grooming can be difficult not because of the dogs, but because of your own internal dialogue that encourages you to doubt yourself. Maybe they didn’t share because this wasn’t their experience, and I’m sure some people won’t relate, but I really believe I’m not alone!

So I wanted to share: I still get scared. I still doubt myself. I kindly quiet the voice telling me I’m not as good as people think I am. I’m trying to feel the fear and do it anyway. 🙂

Had a fantastic time teaching at the booth at earlier this month. I couldn’t believe that my demo dog, my new fav clipper, and the booth all color coordinated and forgot to let me know… I would’ve worn my hot pink apron…

Thank you to the incomparably talented for the beautiful footage (and don’t forget to hire him if you want a video as cool as this at the next expo).
It’s the attention to details that truly set a great haircut apart, and this is one of the best tips to totally transform a face! Should we make a tutorial video??
