Last week I found some small hoops I’d made years ago. I also had some left over willow from a recent order and these two baskets were the combined result!
It’s been awhile since I’ve had the chance to experiment and I’ve been road testing one of them every day since and I’m very happy with how it works as an everyday bag 🤩
Solid containers always win over fabric options for me which is a handy preference for a basketmaker! You can chuck your stuff in and run with the knowledge it’s protected 🏃♂️

I finished and trimmed all the ends on the outside of the basket before I realised what I was doing, but it does mean they are hidden on the underside and the side that’s seen has a clean and tidy finish!

They are all available to buy from the gallery shop while the exhibition is on show - and if, like me, you love to hear of stories held within objects, the basket at the back of the line was the tumbling basket at #lunanbay in my previous reel! (which survived completely unscathed 😁)
They have been made with a lost technique that was used in baskets unique to fisher communities along a small stretch of coastline in NE Scotland during the late 19th and Early 20th centuries.
It’s a real gem of a technique 🤩 with a beautiful arrow detailing that’s revealed only once the basket has been trimmed.
