Large heath butterfly wing macro nature embroidery. I made this for an embroidery exhibition a few weeks ago. It’s the first macro I’ve done in a while and one of the first larger pieces I’ve worked on with thinner thread. I always thought of my macros as kind of quilted looking, but with the thinner thread the quiltedness is next level! I always love exploring butterfly patterns this way. The large heath butterfly is one of the most endangered butterflies in the UK, and would be most likely extinct without conservation efforts. These beasties are mostly impacted by habitat loss, you can find more info on these and how to help
No. 39 nessaea obrinus butterfly from my kaleidoscope series.
Macro nature embroideries, a mix of bird and butterfly wing inspired hoops. Time’s been tight on sorting posts from new work lately. So I’m revisiting some immersive nature pattern hoops.
Peacock feather embroidery in progress. A closer look at this peacock macro embroidery while I was working on it for the lovely Chelsea. I was adding the glimmery bit at this point. This was an interesting one to work on with all the layers and tonal variation. I switched between two strand thread and single thread for the left and right to add a bit of texture. The 2 strand thread was a bit trickier for the longer stitches but I love the quilted effect it creates.
Peregrine falcon embroidery, a flashback to this 10 inch hoop of a peregrine falcon. We’ve seen a few of these out and about lately. It’s always amazing to see how smooth they are in flight.
No. 72 satyrium pruni and No. 76 Erebia Argus, butterfly embroideries from my growing kaleidoscope series. These two beasties can be spotted in the UK. Satyrium pruni butterflies are on the red list according to UK’s butterfly conservation organization, meaning there have been very few sightings of this species in the last few years. Erebia argus are still spotted widely in Scotland but are nearly extinct in England. If you want to help these species and many others are working to protect habitats and help butterflies survive.
Nest embroidery pattern coming up in the spring issue for it’s always such a joy working with the lovely people at the magazine. Excited to share this step by step pattern, which was heartening to work on in a grizzly February.
Green cicada embroidery pattern. This one is now live on my Etsy, whoop! You can find the link in my bio ✨cicadas are awesome creatures, this one was originally designed as a kit that sold out super quick, so it’s fun to add this to the patterns and keep sharing the cicada love šŸ’š
Butterfly embroidery pile šŸ¦‹ my growing collection of butterflies. I’m on 15! Aiming for 100, it’s a marathon for sure but slowly getting there. Hope these winged beasties bring some colorful joy to your Monday mornings, afternoons or evenings wherever you are in the world šŸ’›these are all about celebrating the beauty of mini beasts and highlighting the risks all butterfly species face with habitat loss, pesticides and climate change. Hoping to raise awareness of how we can help before many of these beauties disappear, see and for how to help.
Hi! šŸ‘‹šŸ» Heres me and two of my giant macro nature embroideries of starling and peacock feathers. I’m Beth, the maker behind rabbit hat designs. I’m so excited that there’s over 20k of you here! ā¤ļøThanks so much for the love, support and encouragement on these embroidery adventures. It’s been a while since I did a meet the maker, so thought I’d say hello. I’m originally from the UK, now based in Denver, CO šŸ”, I started embroidering while trying to transfer my art therapy accreditation to the States a few years ago and fell in love with the stitching process and now its what I do, which is awesome. I love nature and hope to celebrate and strengthen our connection to nature through embroideries, patterns and kits. When not embroidering I love catching up with friends and family 🧔walking, films, reading, tea, cake and who dunnits. I massively appreciate my insta community and all the love and support I feel on here, thanks so much 🄰I know it’s been an incredibly rough time for many, sending love and warmth, I hope you’re all doing well out there šŸ’›
