Day 19 - It’s the 3rd Monday in January which means it’s… Blue Monday! If you aren’t aware, Blue Monday is supposedly the most depressing day of the year (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). Personally I don’t feel too bad today as it’s finally stopped raining and I have the next 2 days off work 🙌🏻

So keeping up with the blue theme is this photo I took at in The Maldives. I actually had this as my desktop background for a long time because I love it so much. And yes the water really is that blue 😍

Day 18 of the #januaryblues - no prizes for guessing where this is!

Yes, it’s Cuba. My favourite thing in Havana was seeing the old cars and going for a ride around the city in one. Our particular car was Barbie pink but for the purposes of this silly little project I’ve set myself I’m sharing this shot of a blue one I saw 💙

Day 17 - is it even a blue themed gallery without the Blue Mountains? 🩵

The Blue Mountains are a mountain range and national park in New South Wales, Australia. They are named after the blue haze that is created across the landscape from the abundant eucalyptus trees.

This photo is a proper throwback to my first visit to Australia many years ago. We took the train from Sydney and visited this beautiful area on a day trip. This was long before the days of Instagram 👵🏼
I would really love to go again. On our second adventure Down Under we didn’t make it to Sydney again but it’s one of my goals to take my daughter there when she’s a little older.

Day 16 of the #januaryblues - apparently the early Romans didn’t even have January or February in their calendars. The year began in March for mainly agricultural reasons. It wasn’t until later on they realised that the calendar was utter chaos and added two extra months to align with the lunar year. Or something like that.

Perhaps the early Romans had a point though… wake me up 1st March! 😂

Day 15 of #januaryblues - The Supertrees at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay.

We only had 2 nights in Singapore and I really wished we had had one more just so I could fully visit the Gardens by the Bay. After exploring the city, we crashed out in our hostel and only later managed to catch the trees glowing blue at night (we were EXHAUSTED!). The trees themselves are free to visit unlike other parts of the gardens and they change colours in the nightly sound and light shows (which we unfortunately missed).

Have you been to Singapore? What was your favourite part?

Day 14 - Kaikoura, a coastal town in the South Island of New Zealand. We had booked to swim with wild seals but unfortunately it got cancelled due to the weather. So in a late panic, we booked a whale watching trip…. and due to the rough seas, that also got cancelled (probably a good thing 🤢) Kaikoura is famed for its wildlife so we were a bit unsure what to do with ourselves.

And surprisingly a day of cancelled plans ended up being one of the best days. We drove to Oahu Point where we saw baby seals frolicking in a waterfall. We then saw another colony of seals down at the peninsula. Our day ended at this viewpoint. I wrote a blog post all about it but I’ll share some seals photos here sometime 💙

Day 13 of the #januaryblues is a photo I took outside Odawara Castle in Japan. We visited in April for the cherry blossoms and this was one of my favourite places to view them.

🌸 Spring is a great time to visit Japan but if you’re planning on travelling around to view the blossoms, then it’s best to check the cherry blossom forecast to have a better idea of when and where the flowers are likely to be in bloom. I have a post on my blog of the places I saw the blossoms too 🌸

Day 12 and I’m already fatigued with the ‘gram 😂 I’m scheduling these posts but I’m pretty sure the algorithm is burying them so I think I should be focussing on my blog - which is starting to pick up with traffic and affiliate bookings 🙌🏻

Anyway if there’s anyone reading this, a little like would be appreciated ❤️ and for what it’s worth, this random photo of some butterflies was taken at Sigiriya Rock in Sri Lanka.

Day 11 - Bit of an obvious one but you can’t have a blue themed gallery without including the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Yes it’s touristy but I enjoyed it. If you’re visiting Iceland and flying out of Keflavik airport, then the Blue Lagoon is a great place to stop enroute from Reykjavik ✈️
