जितना समय हमने इस समुदाय और स्थान की कल्पना में बिताया है, हमने वो चीजें की हैं जो असंभव लगती थीं, और वह भी अहमदाबाद जैसे शहर में। हमने जोखिम उठाए हैं, खड़े हुए हैं, अपनी जगह बनाई है, खुद को फिर से खोजा है, खुद को बनाया और फिर से बनाया है, गलतियाँ की हैं, सुनी है, सीखा है और एक समुदाय के रूप में हम जो हैं उसमें बहुत कुछ विकसित किया है, एक ऐसे शहर में जो एक समय किसी भी तरह के क्वियर जीवन के लिए बंजर लगता था।

Dear QueerAbadis and loving extended community

In the time we have spent imagining this community and space, we have done things we thought impossible in Ahmedabad of all place. We have taken risks, shown up, made room to be seen, reinvented ourselves, built, and rebuilt, made mistakes, listened, learnt and grown so much in who we are as a community, in a city that was once a seeming wasteland for queer lives of any kind.

QAbad has always been run by a tiny group of humans who have chosen to give their time and love to work they believe in. But we are now at a moment where the world is overwhelming and our capacities are at their lowest. The energy, time, emotion, and leadership that it requires to continue this work is tremendous and we can no longer give all we would like for this dream to continue in the way it deserves and demands. It is in understanding that there are times when drawing something out for the sake of it is a disservice to all it has already accomplished, that we begin to write the final pages of this story.

After much thought and consideration, we are announcing that over the next 6 months QueerAbad will go through the process of closing its virtual doors. While there is of course a heaviness in sharing this news, we have great pride and joy in the work we have done in the last 8 years, the people we have crossed paths with and the journey we have taken together. It is from a place of wanting to honour that history that we make this choice. We intend on using this time to wrap up some of the ongoing projects and dreams that are already in the works and make sure those who come to us for support, contacts, etc. are not left un-resourced.

As always, we will keep you updates and there are still exciting things to come in the time we have left. We hope you will join us for this last leg and celebrate all you have helped us make possible in the last many years, as we say goodbye.
