A dedicated public servant and a native of Queens, has spent his career championing the diverse communities of “the world’s borough.” His path to leadership was forged in resilience; after witnessing the devastating impact of gun violence in his youth, he turned personal tragedy into a lifelong passion for civic reform. As Queens Borough president since 2020, Mr. Richards has been a tireless advocate for over 2.4 million residents during a pivotal era in New York’s history.

In recognition of his exemplary career, his unwavering advocacy for small businesses, and his generous service to the public good, we are proud to present Donovan Richards, Jr. with the Queens College President’s Medal.

A distinguished scholar and practitioner, Lucy Freeman Sandler is one of the world’s foremost authorities on European medieval illuminated manuscripts. Her journey began at Queens College, where her talent as a watercolorist evolved into a passion for art history under the mentorship of Professor Frances Gray Godwin. With an international reputation for her encyclopedic knowledge of psalters and liturgical texts, Dr. Sandler has shaped our modern understanding of how medieval art was created and experienced. 🎨

We confer upon her the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa, in recognition of her pedagogical and scholarly excellence, her distinction and impacts on her field, and her service to the pursuit of knowledge.
“Before the world knew her as a scientific titan, Dr. Daly was a student right here at Queens College. This institution was her foundation. It was here, in these classrooms and labs, that she built the intellectual floor that allowed her to eventually shatter the glass ceilings at Columbia and beyond.” Carly Reid, on her grandmother Dr. Daly

In conferring this posthumous degree, we honor a pioneer who perfectly exemplified our motto, “We Learn So That We May Serve,” leaving an indelible legacy as an intellect, a mentor, and a contributor to the public good.
