Sally joins the Purdue Veterinary Medicine DVM Class of 2030 from Sandy, Utah.
At Purdue, she’s looking forward to building her hands-on skills, exploring the many areas of veterinary medicine and meeting new people along the way.
Sally is currently interested in mixed animal medicine, particularly working with dogs, cats and horses. She’s keeping an open mind as she discovers where veterinary school takes her, with a long-term goal of opening her own practice.

From September 23 through 26, attendees came from more than 30 states for continuing education, professional connections and special events. The conference featured 65 speakers, more than a dozen educational tracks and opportunities to earn up to 23 continuing education credit hours.
The week also brought alumni back to campus for class reunions, marked 50 years of Purdue Veterinary Technology and concluded with 195 participants taking part in the Dr. Skip Jackson Dog Jog.

The condition affects the laminae, the structures that connect the hoof wall to the bones inside the hoof. When those structures are damaged, the support within the hoof can weaken and, in severe cases, the coffin bone may rotate or sink.
Common triggers can include:
🐴 Insulin dysregulation and equine metabolic syndrome
🌱 Excess carbohydrates from grain or lush pasture
🌳 Exposure to toxins such as black walnut shavings
🦵 Excessive weight-bearing on one limb because of injury to another
Signs can include increased digital pulses, warm hooves, reluctance to walk, repeated weight shifting and a “sawhorse” stance.
Early recognition matters. If your horse develops signs of hoof pain or difficulty moving, contact your veterinarian promptly.

Megan L. Brashear, BS, RVT, VTS (ECC), and Tami L. Lind, BS, RVT, VTS (ECC), recently visited veterinary technology students at Fox College to talk about careers in academic veterinary medicine.
The students had plenty of questions, and Megan received quite the welcome. Several recognized her from her work in veterinary technology education, asked for photos and even brought over a few things for her to sign.

The 15-year-old American Miniature Horse was referred to Purdue University Equine Hospital after a dog attack caused multiple bite wounds and a dislocated hip. His primary care veterinarians at Janssen Veterinary Clinic stabilized him before the emergency referral.
At Purdue, Moe’s wounds were treated and he underwent a femoral head ostectomy (FHO), which removed the damaged portion of his hip joint. Rehabilitation began while he was still in the hospital.
Moe’s Purdue care team included:
• Dr. Danielle Cucuzella and surgical resident Dr. Kaitlyn Coleman, who performed the FHO and developed his postoperative rehabilitation program
• Dr. Seiji Yoshimura, who continued wound care and used CT imaging to help guide his care after surgery
• Fourth-year student Riley Eder, who assisted throughout treatment, including teaching Moe his daily range-of-motion exercises
• Surgical assistants Micah Black and Sarah Larson, who assisted with procedures and provided postoperative care during his hospitalization
Moe is now home continuing his customized rehabilitation program.
