A standing CT showed fractures near her orbit that could threaten her eye and vision. Purdue teams across Equine Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, and Ophthalmology partnered with Purdue Engineering to create a custom 3D-printed protective helmet to support healing and help protect her eye.
Sassy wore it like a champ, and she is now home continuing recovery. 💛🖤🐴

It's also the height of kitten season, when shelters often experience an increase in kittens and cats looking for homes.
If you've been considering adoption, now is a great time to visit your local shelter. Adopting a cat gives an animal a second chance while helping shelters create space and resources for other pets in need.
Before bringing home a new feline friend, remember that cats are a long-term commitment. They deserve lifelong care, enrichment, and attention. In return, they'll provide companionship, entertainment, and plenty of purrs.
This month, consider opening your heart and home to a shelter cat.

A horse's cheek teeth continuously erupt throughout life to compensate for the wear caused by chewing rough forage. Over time, this natural process can create sharp enamel points that may affect comfort and chewing.
Routine dental floating helps smooth those sharp edges and restore a more even chewing surface. Regular dental care can support comfort, weight maintenance, chewing efficiency, and overall performance.
Signs your horse may need a dental exam include:
• Dropping feed while eating
• Difficulty chewing
• Weight loss
• Bad breath
• Excessive salivation
• Head tossing
• Resistance to the bit
• Undigested feed in manure
Annual dental exams and floating are an important part of keeping horses healthy and comfortable.
Whether your horse needs a dental exam, routine vaccinations, a wellness check, or a lameness evaluation, our Equine Field Service can come to you. Learn more about scheduling an on-farm visit with the Purdue Veterinary Hospital team in the comments.
