El Salvador just hacked the startup rankings of Latin America. 🚀
In StartupBlink’s 2026 Global Startup Ecosystem Index, the country jumps into the Top 10 in the region and lands #80 worldwide with a score of 1.159.

Only a few years ago, El Salvador didn’t even show up in the Latin American Top 10 conversation. Now San Salvador’s startup ecosystem is growing at more than +26% in a single year and is officially mapped with 22 startups in the index. That puts it in the same regional league as much bigger economies, and ahead of several peers that traditionally got all the attention.

To understand the scale: Brazil is still the regional giant with a score of 14.005 and the #1 spot in LatAm, while Costa Rica sits at 1.337 as #8 in the region. El Salvador, with 1.159 at #10, is obviously smaller – but the growth speed and narrative are what matter for founders and VCs looking for outsized upside.

What is driving this leap?
A mix of bold policy moves and branding. The country is pushing an AI and digital assets strategy, offering 0% tax on innovation and technology development, and positioning itself as an experimental hub for sovereign tech and nearshoring. That cocktail is attracting global founders, crypto-native builders and investors who are looking for jurisdictions willing to move faster than legacy markets.

El Salvador is far from “done” – it still needs stronger institutions, deeper capital markets and more scale. But its entry into LatAm’s Top 10 startup ecosystems is a clear signal: in this new cycle, ambition and policy can move a country from outsider to contender much faster than many people expect. 🌎⚡️

Central America just turned into one of the most interesting tech corridors on the planet. 🚀

Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador are all now in StartupBlink’s 2026 Top 10 startup ecosystems in Latin America – and that’s not a coincidence.

Costa Rica leads the pack in the region’s north with a rank of 8th in LatAm and 76th worldwide, scoring 1.337 in the index. With more than 90 startups mapped and a fast-growing ecosystem, San José is quietly becoming a regional hub for services, software and high-value talent, supported by years of FDI and innovation policies.

Panama follows as 9th in LatAm and 78th worldwide, with a score of 1.185 and 76 startups mapped. Its ecosystem posted a massive +61.1% growth in 2025, driven by logistics, fintech and digital services on top of its strategic canal–hub positioning. If you are thinking payments, trade, supply chains or cross-border platforms, Panama is no longer just an “offshore” story – it is a tech story.

Then comes the newest member: El Salvador.
Ranked 10th in LatAm and 80th worldwide with a score of 1.159, it has 22 startups mapped and a startup city (San Salvador) that grew more than 26% in one year. Media and ecosystem leaders directly link this leap to an aggressive mix of AI regulation, digital assets strategy and tax incentives aimed at innovation and technology development.

Put together, these three small markets are shaping a “Central America Tech Corridor” close to the US, plugged into nearshoring flows and offering founders a more agile, cost-effective entry point into Latin America. For investors, it is a clear signal: the next wave of asymmetric opportunities in LatAm might not come from the biggest economies, but from the fastest-moving ones. 🌎⚡️

EE.

Latin America is not just “on” social media, it lives there. In 2026, the region stands out as one of the most intense and passionate social media ecosystems on the planet, both in number of users and in how much time people actually spend online. While the world has reached more than 5.6–5.7 billion social media identities, roughly two thirds of humanity, Latin America punches above its weight in engagement and daily usage.

The global ranking of platforms still looks familiar at the top. You will find giants like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp and TikTok leading by monthly active users. Together, they concentrate billions of people and a huge share of global ad spend. But if you zoom into Latin America, the picture gets much more interesting. Meta platforms remain dominant across the region: Facebook continues as the most visited social network, with Instagram and WhatsApp forming part of people’s daily routine for messaging, stories and community building.

Then comes the second part of the story: scale. Brazil has around 150 million social media users, equivalent to more than 70 percent of its population. Mexico follows with roughly 99 million social media users and a penetration close to 75 percent. Add Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and others, and you get a region where social media is practically a default layer of everyday life. For brands, NGOs, creators and governments, this means Latin America is not a niche market; it is a major digital audience in its own right.

And it is not only how many people are connected. It is how long they stay. While the global average is about 2.5 hours per day on social media, users in Latin America can easily exceed that. Recent data points to around 23 hours per month on social platforms on average, and some estimates reach 40+ hours for more active segments, especially younger audiences. That extra time translates into more opportunities for videos, live streams, educational content, memes, activism and of course, e‑commerce.

Latin America just served the world a reminder: this region is not only about beautiful landscapes and vibrant cities, it is also one of the most exciting places to eat on Earth. Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 has crowned El Chato in Bogotá as No. 1, followed by Kjolle in Lima and Don Julio in Buenos Aires, and the Top 10 is a tour of the region’s creativity and identity on a plate.

From Bogotá to Quito, each restaurant on the list is telling a story about territory, seasons, farmers, native ingredients, and new techniques. El Chato in Bogotá is putting Colombia firmly on the global culinary map, while Kjolle and Mérito show why Lima remains such a powerful food capital. Don Julio continues to elevate the classic parrilla experience in Buenos Aires, turning steak into a cultural ritual as much as a meal.

Top 10 snapshot:

1. El Chato – Bogotá

2. Kjolle – Lima

3. Don Julio – Buenos Aires

4. Mérito – Lima

5. Celele – Cartagena

6. Boragó – Santiago

7. Quintonil – Mexico City

8. Tuju – São Paulo

9. Cosme – Lima

10. Nuema – Quito

What makes this ranking so interesting is how many countries are sharing the spotlight. Peru appears three times in the Top 10, confirming its long-term leadership in Latin American gastronomy. Colombia has two stars with El Chato and Celele, while Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Ecuador each place a restaurant in the very top tier. Instead of a single dominant city, the map of excellence is now a network of culinary hubs.

For travelers, this list is basically a food-focused bucket list. For chefs and entrepreneurs, it is a signal that investing in local products, storytelling, and high-quality experiences can generate real global attention. And for Latin America as a whole, it is proof that the region is shaping global taste, not just following trends.

If you could teleport to one of these Top 10 restaurants tonight, where would you book a table first? 🍷✨
