1. Integrity of the electrode array. Is it continuous? Is it entangled, broken or did the tip fold-over?
2. Where is the electrode positioned? While ENT surgeons usually aim at placing the array through the round window in the scala tympani, placement in the scala vestibuli can be opted for in select cases. A scalar translocation can be recognized by a rapid decline in the array radius it circles around the modiolus.
3. The insertion depth angle is determined by the chosen length of array. It defines the frequency spectrum, the CI is able to cover. High frequencies are received at the base, the round window that is, while high frequencies are located near the apex. The longer the inserted array, the higher the insertion depth angle (up to >500°), the larger the transmittable frequency spectrum.
