Whatever it is, whatever moves your spirit, it's for you. And the life that unfolds for us, work with it. It's not always going to make sense. The TSW cascade of physical disturbances, career loss, marriage loss, and years of confusion certainly weren't on my bingo card.
I've been in a new chapter recently, one where I am embracing surrender. I know I will flounder at times, but this feels a lot better, mentally, than constantly battling what I can not control, whether that's circumstances, answers, or even people's actions. Moving from a place of clarity naturally feels better than throwing the boxing gloves on all the time.
"If you look back and see only resentment or regret, that is violence toward yourself. Instead, see that every experience, good or bad, has helped you evolve. The people who hurt you, the relationships that didn't work out, the hardships that tested you - they all gave you something. They made you stronger, wiser, more capable of handling life. Instead of carrying your past as a weight, honor it, and be sure to thank it." - Michael Singer
Hold gratitude for it all. Your soul might start to feel lighter.

As exciting as the main stage felt, it was a privilege seeing so many other community members shine at the Skin Hub! Such engaging presentations and thoughtful advice shared.
Saturday highlights:
๐ซฑ๐ปโ๐ซฒ๐ผ TSW Together hosted by and: They allowed space for community members to share their stories and perspectives (and shared about the next meetup in Belfast!)
๐ฅฐ Meeting the brands: Such a lovely time to hear from our biggest supporters. They even sat down with us and chatted about our ideas and dreams in this space. Some brands I know I'm grateful for are,,,, (sad they weren't in attendance), (way down in Aussie!) and had a lovely conversation with. Can't wait to chat with as well!
๐๐พ TSW & Eczema Skin of Color with
,, and Jitash. They absolutely killed it! Such a team effort and left with more to think about in terms of inclusivity and representation.
Sunday highlights:
๐ค Managing Expections with our Skin w/: I never want to miss a Jen talk. They are always extremely insightful, dedicating time to our phsychological barriers and needs.
๐ Midlife Skin with, Jo, and others: Sometimes things can become even more complicated as we age -- esp menopause. I missed a bit, but love how these women know how to educate on this special subject with encouragement.
๐คฉ The ups and downs of a life online w/ and: I love these two so much! Great advice on how to navigate bullies, focus on those that matter, and how to protect your peace. When being a presence online, it can come with some tough hurdles. These women know how to handle it all with dignity and grace.
Overall, what a special event. So proud of all of the speakers! ๐ I can't wait to see what 2027 has in store! Thank you ๐

I am still buzzing that offered myself, and the main stage to discuss TSW. It's a privilege we took very seriously, dedicating time and thought to what we wished to share. It's imperative how we share and disseminate information - with grace and with intention.
Meeting lots of folks at our Q&A also felt really special. There were loads of other brilliant talks (seperate post), each well deserving of a mic and audience.
It's such a special space that balmonds has allowed us all to share our skin experiences. Patient voices matter. And getting to be on the main stage specifically for TSW is something I hope will continue at these events.

I was looking at this picture on the train home today, coming back from a solo adventure.
A picture can truly hold 1000 words, most of them silent.
I immediately looked at my arm. Smooth, clear, free from itch, pain, or a stranger's judgemental glance. I look at my body: my neck able to turn, my hand able to hold the camera steady, my stomach exposed to the elements of the world without complaint. I look at my long, healthy hair.
Then I look to my runner's vest, signaling activity and stamina.
And then there is this beautiful backdrop. Blue skies, sunny weather, a gorgeous haunt behind me.
But what you can't see is the fear this body holds; that she chases adventure to feel joy; that she'd rather the wind touch her than any man at this moment; that she wonders why stepping foot into broken homes feels comforting and familiar; that though her run to this priory was quite exhausting, the thoughts running through her mind are more still.
I say all of this because of a conversation I had with an acquaintance this week, one who comes off as full of life on social media. Their posts are always of wild adventures, cool activities, big smiles, and care-free magic. However, that's the opposite of how they feel most days. They love all of those moments, but those moments don't encompass their everyday worries or anxieties, some so loud they have asked for medication.
The point is, I post this photo for its 1000 words. It represents the life I embrace and choose to still participate in with a whole heart while also reassuring anyone who sees highlight reel after highlight reel in their feeds that life is never that simple. Every human you see could be battling monsters beyond the lens. Wherever you are, you are doing the best you can and never judge yourself in comparison to what you see on your screen.
Do what you can with what you have ๐ฉต be your authentic self as Clare told me over coffee xx I've felt my "muchness" has dulled a bit due to hard hits these past two months, but spring is here and new opportunities will bloom ๐ท I love you all. ๐ซถ๐ผ

I haven't spoken in a while on the duality of chronic illness and how choosing to take a treatment doesn't always feel empowering.
Many conversations I've had during an appointment come down to one thing: get the patient physically functioning. That's a dermatologist's job. So, when offering certain treatments, they are looking for safe and effective.
But I read a quote recently that highlights the disconnect happening when presenting certain treatments to patients.
"One of the scariest parts of communication is that two people can be using the same word but that word has different meaning to each of them" - Teal Swan
What feels "safe" and "effective" isn't a snap decision for a patient nor a guaranteed future.
I have been on methotrexate now since January 2025. It has undoubtedly given me "my life back" - but it doesn't come without a cost.
Everyday, I live with a niggle in my chest:
What if this drug stops working?
What if it starts to weigh on organs in my body?
What if I want kids?
What if my partner can't accept the real version of my body being suppressed by this drug?
What if I never find the means to get better?
I know I'm not alone in this, how we compartmentalize these thoughts in order to keep living and be grateful for abled bodies.
But it goes to show that safe and effective is subjective. There is a sacrifice to every choice a patient has to make. It isn't simple, certainly not in the 10 minutes we are given to make some of these decisions. No one wants to be tethered to a drug.
So even those of us who look "healed" on the outside, we are not "in the clear". We live with the trepidation that this isn't forever. The psychological weight is always there, regardless of how we look and move in the world x
I am grateful to all the compassionate dermatologists I've been privileged to meet, work alongside, and interview, but we have a long way to go in this field. I truly hope my PhD research can highlight these needed areas, ones that burden the patient more than anyone can see on the surface.

I am beyond proud of Kelly Barta and ITSAN's efforts over the years in finally seeing TSW(S) be recognized in the United States in 2027.
This helps open so many doors! I look forward to celebrating with ITSAN in July at the TSW summit.
There is still work to be done, so never stop sharing your story and documenting your journey.

I haven't painted a canvas since moving to Edinburgh 2.5 years ago. It's been my saving grace and therapeutic ritual this past month. I am so happy with how it turned out, not even knowing what I wanted to create in the first place. I just let it flow.
Our hearts hold so many emotions. As I've moved through some recently, it magnified how beautiful these emotions are to explore, even the tough ones. It was really fun to symbolize them as well with things I love and miss.
Some of my favorite pieces are my toy soldier that sits on my dresser. My pet rat, Cadbury, who sadly died while I was going through my divorce. My Girl Talk recorder that Brianne and I would create the most ridiculous stories on. My Spiderman pillow in my safe space, an item I've had since I was 17. A tulip emerging as they are my favorite flower. A ship as I used to be a performer on the high seas. And, of course, a penguin jammin out (and an Ace Ventura slinky...).
(my fav artist) could not have had better timing with the release of his song, Honest. His lyrics, "But my heart's too honest, all my colors spilling out" was the absolute cherry on top for me.
I can't wait to create more and just wanted to share ๐ when we don't run from our emotions, but sit in them, we can often times find the places where the light gets in.

This year, there are exciting and new collaborative efforts being made in order to address and recognize this preventable condition.
Topical Steroid Withdrawal is an iatrogenic condition that stems from the overprescription and overuse of topical steroids. We still...
โฐ๏ธ have no idea the timeframe of withdrawal
๐ have no idea what the max dosage should be
๐ฉบ have little (but growing) medical support
๐ don't know the prevalence of TSW
๐ป don't have an ICD-10 code for doctors to use
๐ฎโ๐จ must advocate through grassroots efforts
It's taxing. It's unfair. But, we must prevail!
โ๐ป In this post are a few ways you can get started on your own advocacy work.
For the US ๐บ๐ฒ
โ๏ธ There is a new patient registry that needs your input! This is where we can finally collect data! (link in their bio)
๐ฝITSAN has a way for you to connect with your state reps in order for them to sign the TSW Resolution Bill (link in their bio)
For the UK ๐ฌ๐ง
๐ A brand new UK TSW Questionnaire is out! Please go to the National Eczema Society page to participate! (link in their bio)
โญ๏ธ Scratch That has put together an easy way for you to submit your side effects to the Yelow Card scheme
and are both tremendous resources for other advocacy efforts as well, such as
๐ writing into the FDA for adverse reactions
๐ writing to your MP in Parliament
โณ๏ธ getting ready for a possible ICD-10 code (wooot)
๐ PLUS, I'll be starting a PhD in the fall around patient lived experience with eczema and Topical Steroid Withdrawal ๐
In the comments, I will be tagging the accounts you should follow (some are tagged in post) and the companies that support TSW awareness (so appreciative of them!) *on my former TSW Day post, I have other accounts you should follow as well (needed to make some room for some new ones!) โจ๏ธ
Love you all. Together, we can make a difference.
I love you, I see you, I am you.
๐ฝ P.S. My documentaries, Preventable, the first TSW documentary, and Still Preventable, are also linked in my bio. I hope they help you feel less alone xx
There is a paradox in reflection.
I don't like looking back at photos and videos of myself when I was so ill. That girl who endured so much still lives in my bones. I carry her with me.
๐ฉShe remembers the day she had to shave her head.
๐ฉShe remembers the pillow sticking to her face every morning.
๐ฉShe remembers the woman at the till asking if she was getting cancer treatment.
๐ฉShe remembers being called a 'sir' when she was too weak to close the Uber driver's door.
But because of that girl and her persistence to not let the pain bury her, I am now able to see the spring of life. It's every day.
๐ She reminds me that, even when I don't feel beautiful, I'm so much more than my f*cking skin.
๐ She reminds me to cherish every hug, every kiss, every touch that she never got to experience.
๐ She reminds me how much the little things truly mean - sharing gummy bears, singing in the shower, glancing up at the castle on the hill
๐ She reminds me to enjoy every moment that she couldn't - running through the woods, attending live music in a muggy bar, holding someone's hand.
I never, ever want to fail that girl.
I want her to know that I see her and will never forsake the time she had to sacrifice for me to be here today.
I still struggle with many things. Self-worth. PTSD. Looking people in the eyes. Imposter syndrome. Compartmentalizing. Trust.
Trauma takes patience, support, comfort, and strength in order to heal. It's a daily task.
So always remember - an easy life is never promised. Play the hell out of your cards. Look around, be present, smile at a stranger. Give. Give some more.
If you wish to learn more about TSW, go watch Preventable in my xx
And as much as I dont wish to fail myself, I don't want anyone else to know this journey. I fight for them. I fight for you.
Sending you all love. You can do the hard things.
