Becoming a new dad is life-changing — and knowing your rights can help you make the most of that special time ❤️
🍼 Paternity Leave Basics in the UK:
✅ Not a day-one right — you need to be employed for 41 weeks before your baby's due date
✅ You can take 2 weeks’ leave (together or in separate blocks) within 52 weeks of birth
✅ Self-employed? Unfortunately, there’s no statutory paternity leave or pay
✅ You’ll still accrue paid holiday (including bank holidays!) during your leave
✅ Notify your employer of the due date at least 15 weeks before baby is expected
✅ Let them know your leave dates 28 days in advance
🚫 Paternity leave can’t start before the birth
Knowing your entitlements = less stress + more time with your little one 🧸💼

Bonding with your newborn, but constantly worrying about money because statutory maternity pay barely covers the basics.
For so many mums in the UK — especially immigrants and visa holders — this is the reality 💔
✨ If you’re planning a pregnancy, here’s something no one tells you:
Choosing the right employer can make tens of thousands of pounds difference during maternity leave.
So why not start by looking for a job where the maternity pay is actually worth it? 💼💷

💼 Etsy (UK) – ~26 weeks full pay
💼 Zoopla – ~26 weeks full pay
💼 Knight Frank – ~26 weeks full pay
💼 JPMorgan Chase (UK) – ~26 weeks full pay
📌 UK statutory maternity leave allows up to 52 weeks — but without employer top-ups, most of that is on very low pay.

While you’re only required to inform your employer by the end of the 15th week before your due date to qualify for Statutory Maternity Leave and Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), there can be real benefits to telling them earlier.
💼 Health & Safety matters
Once your employer knows, they’re legally required to carry out a pregnancy health and safety risk assessment. This can mean:
• Adjusting duties or hours
• Offering breaks or flexible working
• Avoiding heavy lifting, long standing, or hazardous tasks
• Making reasonable workplace adjustments to protect you and your baby
🤍 Support & understanding
Early disclosure can also help with:
• Time off for antenatal appointments
• Managing pregnancy symptoms like fatigue or sickness
• Reducing stress and protecting your wellbeing at work
You don’t owe anyone your news before you’re ready — but knowing your rights means you can choose what works best for you. Empowered, informed, and supported 💛

Eligibility must be reconfirmed every 3 months.
2️⃣ Tax-Free Childcare

up to £2,000 per child per year (£4,000 if your child is disabled).
To qualify:
• Both parents must be working
• Each earning at least £195/week
• Each earning under £100k/year
💡 You can combine both schemes to maximise savings.
Without these schemes, childcare can cost over £2k a month for two children.
