Today at Albuquerque Pride in Old Town, I got my first Mom Hug.
Arms wide open.
I could feel the genuine love radiating from a human I’d never met before. It was awesome! ✨️🫂✨️
All I could think was, “How do I sign up to give out Mom Hugs?”
Later, I saw two people taking a selfie and offered to take their photo. They were so fabulous that one photo turned into a mini photoshoot. After they looked at the photos, they gave out big hugs.
Then I saw friends and collected even more hugs.
And it hit me.
What a gift it is to know, love, and be loved by so many amazing queer humans.
My life is richer because of it.
I can’t imagine the absence of the magic they bring, not only to my life, but to the world.
This month and always, I’m sending big hugs and love to the LGBTQIA+ community. 🏳️🌈❤️

My mom held me as a newborn, and then held me after I became a mother.
From my very first breath, I was in her arms.
While giving birth, the doctor encouraged her to reach down and catch me. And she did!
It was always her dream to be at a birth, and I knew I wanted her at mine.
She was a big part of why I chose an unmedicated birth. I grew up hearing my sister’s and my birth stories and how powerful it was to feel her body completely take over.
I didn’t fully understand what she meant until I experienced birth myself.
When I went into labor a month earlier than expected, she got on a one-way flight from California to Colorado without hesitation.
And I swear…my body waited for her.
Not long after she arrived, I gave birth to my son, her first grandchild.
There’s something so powerful about being held by the first person to ever hold you.
And I will forever carry what it felt like to become a mother, with my mother by my side. 🩷
Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mom, and to all those who mother. 💐
That question hit me as I looked at these two photos side by side.
Because I know what my younger self would have noticed first…my body.
Years ago, my first thought would’ve been, wow, I’m so big.
But not today.
Today, I see everything I’ve built…a life I’m really proud of.
Little Jenny wanted to be an actress and a writer.
Before that, she wanted to be a princess (a girl can dream).
And while I never became a princess, I found something even better…a partner who loves and supports me unconditionally. 👑
I may not be an actress (yet). But I do have an IMDb page. 🎬
And I am a writer! 🖊️
I did it. And Jenny would be so proud.
None of this has anything to do with how my body looks. Even though it’s the focus of so much of my work (ha). It has everything to do with my courage, talent, and willingness to do hard things.

For so many of us, shopping for dresses meant bracing ourselves.

When I was given this unbelievable opportunity, I couldn’t have imagined how much I would be pushed both personally and professionally.
Through coaching, I had to strip away “Presenter Jen” and be Jen.
Because TED isn’t a presentation, it’s a conversation.
And through this process, I realized “Presenter Jen” was a mask I had worn to travel the country as a fat woman, speaking to maternity professionals about weight bias in healthcare.
It helped me to do something that’s actually quite hard, even when I worked to make it look easy.
My coach saw it immediately; how I projected loudly, sometimes with an aggressive tone, as if I had to fight for my message to be heard. And in a way, I did. Because the harm people in larger bodies experience in healthcare is real.
Over weeks, my script didn’t change much, but my tone transformed.
I knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I had to be vulnerable even revisiting the painful words said to me by a doctor: “Maybe you’re so big you need to be on oxygen.”
I pushed myself further by sitting on stage in a chair with arms, making the everyday barriers people in larger bodies face visible.
My talk ends with an invitation:
What if we all got curious about how weight bias shows up in our everyday lives?
From the chairs we choose. The questions we ask. The moments we pause instead of assume. That’s where change begins!
Every body deserves to be treated with dignity. To never feel as if you don’t deserve to breathe.
And sometimes, that change starts with something small like a chair without arms.
After I said those closing words, I stood there, taking in the tremendous applause. I did it!
For so long, my goal has been to make YOU proud. But today, I am finally allowing myself to feel proud, too.
Proud of the woman who stood vulnerably on that stage, spoke her truth, and carried the voices of so many with her. And proud to know that this moment is just the beginning of even greater change!

I remember the first time I used your Customer of Size (COS) Policy. I was embarrassed walking up to the counter…but I was met with kindness.
For over a decade, I’ve flown exclusively because this policy gave me something priceless: the dignity to travel.
It meant I wouldn’t be the next viral video of someone upset about sitting next to the “fat passenger.” Newsflash: I don’t want to snuggle strangers either! That empty middle seat wasn’t just for me, it gave my fellow passengers comfort too.
Airline seats have shrunk over the years, making flying tough for many, not just those in larger bodies. COS wasn’t special treatment; it was accessibility.
Because of this policy, I felt empowered to travel and share my story. One video went viral with 3M+ plays, which led to my invitation to your first creator’s event in 2023.
Behind the viral video were cruel comments, echoing the stares I get when flying. COS helped ease what too often feels humiliating.
That’s why the recent changes are heartbreaking. Starting in January 2026, refunds for a second seat are no longer guaranteed if the flight is full.
This isn’t just about comfort. It’s about financial barriers.
Many will face the impossible choice of paying for two seats…or not traveling at all. That means missed weddings, funerals, graduations, and long-dreamed-of adventures.
Your heart logo is more than branding; it should represent accessibility and inclusion. Those values must remain at the heart of travel.
