But I’m starting to embrace the “Why not?”s a little bit more lately. (And no, that doesn’t necessarily mean running around wild and reckless and free!)
What it actually looks like:
🌱 Attuning to my emotional and physical needs and giving them priority too. E.g. “Do I really need to go to that thing or book this?” / “Is there something we can ALL enjoy instead?”
🌱 Slowing down and snapping myself out of the daily routine, whether that’s taking a breath or noticing the sky’s serving of cloud shapes today
🌱 Buying dessert and savouring every little bite
🌱 Wearing something that makes me feel good, even if I’m just at home
🌱 Dancing unapologetically in my kitchen
Something I learnt on this trip? You don’t need to put on a princess gown and sit on a giant swing in the middle of Indonesian rice fields to access your joy. 😅
That ability to feel light, to play, and to find pleasure in the simplest of things - is already something we hold intrinsically within us.
We just need to strip all the layers of conditioning back to see them again.

While I’m a huge advocate for play and connection off-screens, there have definitely been days where screen time has saved my mess of a nervous system.
AND I’m also highly aware of the negative impact screens can have on humans in general, especially for little ones.
I’ve definitely learnt the hard way how overstimulating they can be (hello, after-screen time meltdowns!).
So I try to use them very intentionally, and in moderation.
For us, that usually looks like:
👉🏽 No tablets or phones, unless we’re using it together
👉🏽 Limiting TV time to half an hour (unless we’re having a movie afternoon, or it’s a sick day)
👉🏽 Preferring shows that aren’t overstimulating, are active, educational or we can connect with as a family

I’m the one-mum-band behind Play & Seek. I was born in Sydney, raised by my amazing solo mum who moved from the Philippines and worked 3 jobs to give me the life I have today. Now I live here with my Cornish taller half & our 5-year-old daughter (my joy & greatest teacher).
Before parenthood, life looked very different. I spent 11 years in London as a software engineer, speaking at tech conferences, dabbling in crafts & spending nearly every free night out social dancing or teaching. Dance & community were my joy.
Then everything shifted. We moved back to Sydney with a 6-month-old in the middle of the pandemic. My world became one of feeds, naps, lockdown walks, and trying to find my footing as a new parent. Somewhere in it all, I lost dance, community & play - and with it, a big part of myself.
When my daughter was a toddler, my mental health took a big hit. I went through chronic pain & panic attacks that left me almost paralysed and scared to move, or even carry her.
Slowly, I began to rebuild. I found gentle solo movement, took one-song dance breaks in my kitchen (which I share over at ), went back to social dancing, and leaned into play with my daughter to bring back lightness.
That’s when I realised play wasn’t just for her - it was for me too.
That’s how Play & Seek was born. 🌿 An app I handmade alongside motherhood to make it all feel a little lighter. A space for play & downtime - to breathe, connect & enjoy ourselves too.
