✨A heart’s a heavy burden.✨ Tattoo Magic by Ohyoon Tattoo in Hongdae!

Howl’s Moving Castle is one of my favorite films, if not my favorite of all time. It taught me a lot about inner beauty and the positive impact of genuine care from a young age. It’s also a huge source of comfort for me when I feel down.

I designed this tattoo with Howl Pendragon based off of “The Star” (my first original tattoo design!). The Star signifies a rejuvenated spirit full of calmness, serenity, and an optimistic outlook for the future. It’s something the movie also teaches, and a lesson I definitely find myself needing as I move further into my 30s.

On a cheekier note… yes. Of course I have a crush on Howl. Who wouldn’t love a dramatic wizard? 🥰

Thank you so much to for making my dream into a reality, and whose gentle hand created the first tattoo to ever make me cry. 💕 I can’t recommend her enough, especially if you’re looking for animation tattoos.

KOREA CAFE 101 👻 GHOST MALLOW, SEONGSU

Calling all ghost lovers! This adorable cafe in Seongsu is a must-see. It’s Halloween all year round at with their adorable desserts and cute decor. The cafe was also bigger than I expected and has spacious tables for large groups. I didn’t take a photo of my favorite room, complete with a fake fireplace and bookshelf wall… So I guess that means I have to go back? ♥️🙈

SEOUL CAFE TOUR ☕️ Dotori, Yongsan-gu

CC: Hey everyone, it’s me, Allie. I’m a Korean travel writer and historian. There are so many cafés in Seoul, but never enough time to visit them all! I recently decided to check out one of the most popular spots in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, at night. Even arriving at Dotori Café around 9:30 PM, it was still difficult to find a table. Most of the food was nearly sold out, but the romantic night views and warm drink selection make this a perfect place to visit on a fall or winter evening. If you’re craving one of their delicious meals or delectable breads, be sure to come in the morning or afternoon—but be warned, you might still have trouble finding a seat. Enjoy the cozy Studio Ghibli forest vibes with the café’s adorable blue acorn mascot. Dotori Café is a must-visit if you’re looking for a charming spot in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

SPOOKY 👻 Korean History in 30 Seconds: The Gumiho (구미호) Spirit

CC:

Hey, guys! My name is Allie and I’m a historian of Korea. Today, I’m going to be introducing you to some spooky folklore with the tale of the mythical gumiho.

The gumiho (구미호), or “nine-tailed fox,” is a supernatural figure in Korean folklore with its origins back to ancient Chinese mythology. Like its Chinese and Japanese counterparts, the gumiho is a shape-shifting fox spirit with the ability to assume human form. Usually, it appears as a beautiful young woman. Originally, the gumiho was a malevolent being that would seduce men to eat their livers or hearts in an attempt to gain a permanent human form.

Today, the gumiho’s image is more nuanced, with some modern tales portraying it with sympathy as part of a love story narrative. A popular example is the 2010 Korean drama: “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho”.

Wonderful tour with! We got to explore a bit of the history of Gwanghwamun spanning from the Joseon Dynasty to the fight for democracy in 1987. And, of course, we had to get a snapshot with our fuzzy Haechi friend.

Hello, everyone! Thank you so much for supporting my blog, podcast, and social media pages over the years.

As many of you know, I started my PhD in the spring of 2022. My many assignments keep me from working full-time, and have also halted some of the goals I’ve had for Pinpoint Korea.

I am currently working on creating a digital store, starting private and group tours, posting highly curated content based entirely on Korean history, and eventually making Youtube videos. Your generous donations will help me bring Korean history and culture to people all over the world. 🇰🇷

To offer a small donation, you can visit OR find the link in my bio. Thank you to all who support me in any way you can - even a kind message makes my day! 💕🙏
