einen 4-mal höheren Betacarotingehalt als Karotten,
einen 15-mal höheren Kaliumgehalt als Bananen,
einen 25-mal höheren Eisengehalt als Spinat und
einen 7-mal höheren Vitamin-C-Gehalt als Orangen besitzen
Im Juni 1997 startete die Organisation “Church World Service” (CWS) gemeinsam mit der Entwicklungshilfeorganisation AGADA (Agir Autrement pour le Développement en Afrique) ein Projekt, das sich mit der richtigen Verwendung von Moringablättern zur Bekämpfung von Mangel- und Unterernährung im Südwesten Senegals beschäftigte.
Insbesondere Frauen und Kinder erhielten täglich Moringapulver. Auch schwangere Frauen wurden dazu ermutigt, das Pulver regelmässig einzunehmen und damit auch während der Stillzeit fortzufahren.
Ausserdem wurde beobachtetet, dass sich die Frauen, die Moringa eingenommen hatten, nach der Entbindung besser und schneller von einer Anämie (Blutarmut) erholten und ihre Kinder mit einem höheren Geburtsgewicht zur Welt kamen. Das Moringapulver förderte auch die Milchbildung bei stillenden Frauen.
