inside performance, environment design, and long-term athlete availability.
We explored how pelvic health is part of an integrated system, shaped by:
• breathing mechanics
• load and fatigue
• stress and nervous system regulation
• movement efficiency
Many symptoms are common in female athletes — but common does not mean normal.
And as coaches, while we don’t diagnose or treat, our awareness, language, and session design matter.
Small coaching choices — intentional warm-ups, space for down-regulation, psychologically safe environments — can make a meaningful difference.
This is not about doing more.
It’s about coaching with better lenses.

What’s one small change you could make in your environment this week?
Pelvic health IS performance and framing it in this way, beyond the medical lens, has provided an opportunity to develop the understanding and appreciation of pelvic health, create more buy in from players and improve integration of pelvic health within the elite female football environment. 🥳
It’s super exciting to be part of the change within the including (pictured here) whose pioneering female athlete health program is led by the very brilliant #pelvichealth #performance #change #evolution femaleathlete
Of the 39 manuscripts+2 guidelines I published this year, these were the ones you liked, saved, shared and the most.
From resistance training and heavy lifting in pregnancy,
to postpartum recovery, pelvic floor health, return-to-run, breastfeeding, and Canadian and global guidelines… these studies reflect what mattered to you this year.
✨The Canadian post partum guideline was even the 2nd most read article in this year too!!
Science moves forward when we have evidence to support us.
Thank you for being part of a community that cares about research and better evidence for moms.
🥂 Here’s to curiosity, collaboration, asking the hard questions and getting more answers in 2026!

➡️This study looks for the impact of REDs on perinatal health outcomes.
THANK YOU TO THE 1025 Postpartum individuals who completed an online questionnaire 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼✨
We found that prior to pregnancy:
6.1% had been previously diagnosed with REDs
20.5% had a history with secondary amenorrhea.
Individuals diagnosed with REDs had:
3.5X higher odds of having premature labor
2.6X higher odds of preterm delivery
compared to those who had not experienced REDs or secondary amenorrhea.
❗️When it comes to pregnancy, knowledge is power!
Let your healthcare provider know about your history with REDs. This simply helps them stay proactive and provide the best possible care. It's a step toward empowerment, not fear. ❗️
💕Practitioners should screen for REDs history and ask about current energy intake and expenditure to ensure patients have adequate energy balance.
You’re not alone. We’re working hard to find evidence to support mothers in all stages.
When I trained as a physio some time ago now 🤭, we were told many stories of Gary Lewin and his trailblazing approach to physio in men’s football. I never once thought that I would have the opportunity to work alongside him one day, learning from him, and part of his staff team who are carving a female focused path that will serve all female footballers and considers their needs holistically.
When I entered the world of pelvic health and developed a passion for supporting perinatal females, trailblazing papers would help me determine how I as a clinician could better support pregnant and postpartum women. Reaching out to her many years ago was one of the best thing I did and Im now lucky enough to work alongside her and be a small part of the work she does to develop the perinatal field for female athletes.
Both Gary and Margie are two mentors who have helped develop ‘me’ as a clinician and thinker in this space and I’m so grateful to both of them. They have taught me how important great mentors are (shout out to whom I also consider super important mentors)!
I’ve often questioned if I know enough to be a ‘mentor’ but it’s a role I’ve taken on as I support the very brilliant! Emma is one of the teams lead MSK physios but also serves as the female athlete lead and has a special interest in pelvic health. Watch out for her in the female athlete space - she’s pretty special 🥰
Good people working together, really supporting each other makes ripples, bringing these people together and learning from each other makes waves! We will all be in Norway in May at the ‘Growing through the game’ conference discussing how the work we are doing is contributing to the female football / athlete space! Join us!

‘The things we have to start talking about more... our bodies post-birth! I blooming love and am so thrilled that she’s put her knowledge, kindness and compassion into a book. Emma is a pelvic health physiotherapist and is so incredibly passionate about empowering women to step away from the idea that we have to suffer in silence with what are common and treatable conditions. We just have to stop being so embarrassed and address that heaviness, that leak, that bulge - whatever it is we might be feeling or experiencing. There’s always someone who can help, but it starts with you asking. Xx’ ‘ #whydidnoonetellme #pelvichealth #pregnancy #postnatal #motherhood
